Power back on after transformer issue causes outage
And we thought it was some drunk who hit a utility pole with a car! Power outage in Elephant Butte lasted from about 5:30 a.m. til about 8:30 a.m., nearly 3 hours. (Sunday Dec 27 | post #1)
Spaceport seeks $7.5M for road
Here's the scoop, the road from Engle to the Spaceport (North) is complete. Good work done here. Now, Bar-Too is not hauling gravel to the Spaceport for the runway build, due to the C.A.P. movement (citizens against progress), there's another thread about this subject (also called C.A.V.E.) movement. Presently, gravel is being hauled from Hatch Sand and Gravel for the runway. (a few miles closer) Christmas day, we took a drive to see the progress being made. We were a bit shocked that the entrance to the Spaceport was not paved. An un-named source told us that the contractor is focusing on runway construction and nothing else at this time. (see my photos and progress notes) We were also shocked that no sign has been erected saying "Welcome To Spaceport America". (Saturday Dec 26 | post #39)

This website: http://gormanpavin g.com/tar_chip_pav ing.php Gives folks a good look at chip seal pavement. It also states about how long a chip seal road will last, and that is dependent on the amounts of rain/precipitation and traffic use. One thing's for sure about a chip seal road, it doesn't measure up as well as a asphalt roadway does. In other words, once this chip seal road is completed, it could be in need of repair or rebuilding within a very short length of time. I was a pavements maintenance specialist in the Armed Forces, and ideally, chip seal roads were BEST used as an overlay of an already established alphalt pavement. Much cheaper than an asphalt overlay, and it had great sealing and nice rough surface (not rolled) for water puddling and icy conditions. If they're thinking of putting chip seal over a packed gravel surface, rest assured, it'll have to be virtually constantly maintained (depending on traffic and weather) due to washouts and non packing density causing potholes. The north end of the spaceport road is ok, they installed a moisture barrier between the chip seal and the gravel surface they installed it over. If they do this to the south extention, they might be able to go for 6 to 8 years before having to do a fill and resurface job. Let's hope they do not wait until the daytime temperature drops to 40F degrees when they do the chip seal, because it is best laid down when it's hot. (Thursday Dec 24 | post #38)
Truth or Consequences - Unfriendliest City in the SW
Sheriff Ron Brown gets a hug from grateful children. In other news, the spaceport authority says it will pull it's own weight in first year! More great new stories in the Herald. http://heraldpub.c om/news.pdf (Thursday Dec 24 | post #191)

Truth or Consequences - Unfriendliest City in the SW
You must evidently be one of the trolls of this forum. Picking out the sour grapes. Nothing positive to say. Your opinions and rants do not reflect the concensus of the general population of the city itself. If you beleive that the city of Truth or Consequences is immune to stupidity, mistakes and crime, I hate to burst your bubble, because it is not. May I suggest you get yourself a life, either that or MOVE if you're discontent. Most people move if they do not like where they're at. (Tuesday Dec 22 | post #187)
Truth or Consequences - Unfriendliest City in the SW
The posts here do not reflect the attitudes of the population at all. These posts are just from a minority of people who have had run ins with each other or the local government/police department. If you've seen posts in other forums like city-data, some people can be quite raw. I've resided in this area for 4 years now, and it suits me fine. I like the weather, people, and the location as a whole. Check out my photos I have posted here, this is a very, very nice area. The local merchants are pleasant and helpful too. Welcome to the area, and Merry Christmas. (Tuesday Dec 22 | post #184)

Spaceport seeks $7.5M for road
Must have been BNSF briefly allowing trucks to cross their tracks at Hatch New Mexico. I tried to do the shortcut across the tracks last summer, but had second thoughts because of a story I'd heard from a friend who did some rock-hounding alongside of the tracks in a different area. He and a friend were pinched by local sheriff and BNSF for trespassing on RR property. We'll probably be checking out the north road (Engle) sometime in the near future here. We would like to see how far they've progressed on spaceport construction. My friend's pinch cost him and his buddy $1,500.00 each in fines, possession of RR property (rocks) and trespass. They didn't have the $$$$, so both did the time. (Sunday Dec 20 | post #30)
