9 ways to eliminate professional politicians

I've been watching electoral politics for a long time, and I've never seen an anti-incumbent sentiment as strong as it is right now. We had the near-failure of the banking system, DC bailed them out, and they turned right around and went back to their same shenanigans, with OUR money. We've had the "war on poverty" for nearly fifty years; the poverty rate remains unchanged, and the entitlement programs that OUR money pays for have turned into vote-buying tools for whoever happens to be in office. The economy was on the ropes, so DC gave us the "stimulus " bill to put us back on track, except OUR money went to pay off supporters of the newly-elected. It doesn't matter which party holds power; the taxpayers are being screwed at every turn. I will watch 2010 with great interest. I believe there will be some massive oustings of incumbents. And it may be time to sacrifice some of the better ones, just to send a message. Fleming, for example. And this will be the time to do it, because there will be no national election to stir up the groupies. We need to act, and we need to act now. 2012 may be too late.  (Saturday Dec 12 | post #16)

9 ways to eliminate professional politicians

I'm with you, brother, but consider the following: 1. This would require a Consitutional amendment, which must originate in Congress. Fat chance. 2. Congress also sets these rules. Another fat chance. 3. Ditto for 1 and 2. 4, 5, 6. I think we've already determined that restrictions on campaign finance run counter to the First Amendment(?) 7. Even if we eliminate the parties, candidates will form their own party-like support groups. 8. Refer to number 1, 2, and 3. 9. Most of our congressmen are lawyers. The laws apply, but (except in rare cases--Jefferson, Traficant, Rostenkowski) they manage to skate around them. I'm fully on board with the notion that we should abolish the career politician. With longevity like Byrd (57 years), Dingell (54 years), Inouye (50 years), Conyers (45 years)...well, you get the idea. Their interests lie in maintaining their privileged status, and not in what is best for the country. The ill-educated electorate will never break the cycle. It may take a revolution.  (Saturday Dec 12 | post #7)

New Resturant??

How would a What-a-Burger be any newer or different from the DQ/BK/McD's that litter the landscape of Keyser and South Drive? Bring me a Macaroni Grill or a Carrabba's or a Ninfa's or an Izzo's Illegal Burrito, THEN we'll talk new/different!  (Wednesday Dec 9 | post #2)

why are men so heartless

If this is your first "heartless " man, chalk it up as a hard lesson learned. On the other hand, if this ain't your first rodeo, maybe you should be more concerned with your brain than his heart. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.  (Wednesday Dec 9 | post #22)

TEACHERS BEWARE

Uh, oh...sounds like some "career teacher" is in a TAP school! Guess what..."caree r teacher" does not necessarily mean "effective teacher," and the evaluation/account ability requirements of TAP are going to demand actual performance. And it is perfectly appropriate that Master Teachers participate in the evaluation process. TAP is a program that works. If you don't like it, request a transfer to Fairview or Goldonna.  (Wednesday Dec 9 | post #12)

CSID 'S WORLD

Well, yes; if you choose to rebel against a law--just or unjust--you run the risk of forfeiting your rights. Why is that confusing?  (Sunday Dec 6 | post #156)

CSID 'S WORLD

Rights are NOT granted by governments!!! If it's a right, no one has to grant it to you!! The only thing government can do is to fail to recognize rights and take them away!! I'm not as eloquent as Poppa T, but I will say this; by one's choices, one may willingly forfeit a "right" to life. Liberty is also a right, but our prisons are full of folks who have chosen to forfeit that right as well.  (Sunday Dec 6 | post #150)

N.O. SAINTS POEM

No way they could have won that game. It was impossible to overcome the clock, the Skins field position for a chip-shot field goal, a probable ten-point deficit, and an ice-cold offense. It couldn't have happened. So why does the scoreboard read 33-30, and the record stands at 12-0?  (Sunday Dec 6 | post #14)
