Chicago White Sox take 2nd straight from New York Yankees 10-5
From what I've seen of the Yankees this year they don't play very good defense on the road. Reminds me of another team... I don't know if anybody noticed but Mark Kotsay helped mow the field before the game, relieved the normal beer vendor in section 302 in the bottom of the fifth and in his spare time played right field. I'm guessing that he'll be in left today (Saturday) just so that we can see him play every position that we were told he could play but didn't believe. (Jul 31, 2009 | post #11)
Tom Gorzelanny to start Tuesday for Chicago Cubs
I'd pay money to hear Harry Caray try to pronounce the name: Tom Gorzelanny. Relax Cubs fans, Halladay is still a Jay. (Jul 31, 2009 | post #6)
Chicago White Sox pursuit of Jake Peavy bears fruit
It's a high risk, high reward type of trade. There were two reasons that this trade was made. First, they got Jake Peavy. He's an excellent pitcher who is probably going to help them more next year than this year due to an injury. Plus, he's signed for three years. Second, the Sox have a lot of piching prospects. They paid a heavy price by giving up Poreda, Richard and Dexter Carter. All three have the potential to pitch in the majors for a lot of years. This trade clears the way for Dan Hudson (6-0, 1.79 ERA) who's dominating at double-A Birmingham after being promoted from single-A earlier this year. Hudson could/should be ready for the majors by spring training 2010 and is already the leading canidate to be the Sox fifth starter next year. Buehrle, Peavy, Danks, Floyd and Hudson makes for a good '10 rotation. (Jul 31, 2009 | post #30)
Chicago White Sox manager upset with Bartolo Colon
This might be the end of the line for Colon. He was just injured for two months and now he can't make back to back starts without more time on the DL. The Sox have already ruled out Colon in the pen. Let me get this straight.. Randy Williams is a left-handed relief pitcher with major league experience and he's surprised that a major league team had an interest in him? Hello! Jamie Moyer! Minnesota Twins complete sweep of Chicago White Sox 3-2
The Sox are an average team in a below average division. Whatever average team - the Sox, Detroit or Minn - makes the plays, gets decent pitching and/or gets hot at the right time will win the AL Central. I won't be surprised if 85 wins is enough to win the AL Central this year. Right now the Sox are gving games away and playing themselves out of contention. (Jul 29, 2009 | post #29)
Chicago Bears' Charles Tillman out indefinitely after back surgery
First, I can't believe it's already football season. I like Bowman, he could surprise a lot of people. I don't know if I would go so far as to suggest he'll make the Pro-Bowl, but he is very good based on what I saw last year. (Jul 27, 2009 | post #15)
Chicago White Sox defeat Detroit Tigers 5-1, avoid sweep
It was good win for the Sox tonight to salvage at least one game. The Detroit starting pitcher didn't have anything. The knock on the Tigers has been their back-end of the rotation and it showed tonight. Clayton Richard impressed again tonight. He's had a streaky year but right now he's pitching very well. Now that Colon has returned Richard goes back to the bullpen. Perhaps, the Sox should try to ride Richard's hot streak and have him close a couple of games(?) while Jenks works out his issues. He seems to pitch better in pressure situations and there's no greater pressure than being the closer. "[I] hate hate hate your stinky CHITcago teams! to all people of CHITcago -GET A LIFE- you lowdown bottom dwelling rotten maggots!" as quoted from my favorite Motown fan. That's Hallmark material... He should put that on his Christmas cards this year. And don't forget to send one to Ozzie! (Jul 26, 2009 | post #19)
NU football game at Wrigley faces 2 big issues
Didn't they just fix this field? I agree that safety is going to be an issue because I don't think a football field will fit perfectly within Wrigley anymore. Maybe an arena football game? Now, that would work. (Jul 26, 2009 | post #6)
Detroit Tigers humble Chicago White Sox 5-1
"[The Cubs] will also win the World Series much sooner than the Sox due to the business factor of MLB" according to a closet Sox fan. Really? But isn't that business factor, "just a fluke"? BTW... Maybe the Sox took 5,000 seats out of the upper deck so that fans could puke on the parking lot without missing any of the game. At least the Cell has parking lots for tailgating. Bobby Jenks fails again as Chicago White Sox fall 4-3 in 10 inn...
Another tough loss for the Sox. Jenks is in some kinda funk right now. I don't think it's his diet. Lets try location. Also, he might be tipping pitches as well. The Sox bullpen, in general, seems to be in a funk right now. Maybe it's time for a little shakeup? Let Thorton save a few more games, Dotel works more of the 8th, Linebrink to the DL, Richard to the pen, and call up Zaleski, Nunez or Wassermann. Poreda isn't a closer and the Sox want him to get some work at Charlotte. I sure hope the Sox get the good Clayton Richard on Sunday. (Jul 25, 2009 | post #46)
Detroit Tigers humble Chicago White Sox 5-1
Before sweeping the double header with the Sox on Friday, the "ALMIGHTY DETROIT TIGERS" were 1-6 post all-star game break. No wonder the Tiger fans were peeing in their pants on Friday. (Jul 24, 2009 | post #56)
Detroit Tigers humble Chicago White Sox 5-1
I was hoping for a split today... Linebrink... Oh well. Come back and get them tomorrow. I appreciate all of the Cubs fans continued support. At least the day wasn't a total waste. I'm relieved to know that there's actually one Kevin Gregg fan in the world. That would be the Kevin Gregg who's been with four teams in seven years. I don't see how you compare Gregg to Jenks. In the three years that Gregg has been a closer, Jenks has more saves (92-80) appearing a in a lot fewer games (157-193). I don't care what a closers era is. Comparing Marmol to Linebrink is funny. That's like asking which cheese stinks more. (Jul 24, 2009 | post #53)
Chicago White Sox rally for 4-3 victory over Tampa Bay Rays
Why is it that the Sox have no offense when the starting pitcher is a rookie who they never seen before, even when it's one of their own? A very nice comeback by the Sox tonight. Torres did a good job. A couple of mistakes, but he kept them in the game. Laz Diaz, tonight's home plate umpire, is terrible at calling balls and strikes. I can understand why both teams complained. He squeezes the strike zone up and down, calls very wide strikes and is very inconsistent calling inside pitches. Torres, a low ball pitcher, didn't get anything called at the knees tonight. FYI.. The Sox have scored 435 runs so far this year and they have allowed 435 runs this year. They're the only team in the majors with a run differential of 0. FYI... Speaking of starting pitching prospects... Dan Hudson is 4-0 in six starts at AA Birmingham with a 2.48 ERA. The future looks bright. BTW... Where did the Houston Astros come from? They're only one game out of first in the NL Central. Is the NL Central really that bad? Manny time... Hit a pinch-hit grand slam tonight. I wonder... did he skip around the bases screaming like a little girl? (Jul 22, 2009 | post #17)
White Sox activate Carlos Quentin, send Brian Anderson to minors
Quote by Mike in Virginia, "Jared Mitchell who signed and is playing down in Kannopolis that may be fast tracked to a center field position instead of the right field he played in the CWS." I didn't forgoet about Mitchell. He's going to be a very good major league player but he doesn't factor into the Sox's plans next spring. He's at least - at least - a year away from being major league ready. He's playing CF in Kannapolis because he's the best athlete there. He'll probably end up playing LF in the majors. There have been some questions/issues regarding his throwing strength. (Jul 21, 2009 | post #48)
White Sox activate Carlos Quentin, send Brian Anderson to minors
Right now I don't think there's a right answer between Anderson, Wise or Fields. Just more questions and debate. I wish the Sox could have given up one, or two, of those players in exchange for relief pitcher Tony Pena instead of Brandon Allen. There have been some questions about Allen's defense but he's going to be a good major league player who will be the starting 1b for Arizona next year. Kenny Williams, like any baseball general manager, has made some good trades and some trades he wished he did't make. I think he needs to stop sending prospects to Arizona because Allen is the second one (Chris Young the other) who got away. Poreda's control issues appear to be from a lack of use vs. a lack of talent. The more he sits, the worse his control is. (Jul 21, 2009 | post #10)
