Honduras Vows to Turn Away President

Whenever a democratically-elected leader is ousted, there is cause for concern. But the claim is that the Homduran president was violating their constitution. Maybe they're right, and maybe they're wrong. I have no problem with President Obama expressing his concern. But our foreign polict seems to be all over the map. But his concern over the actions of the Honduran Supreme Court seem to be much greater than his concerns about the murder, imprisonment, and election-rigging in Iran.  (Jul 5, 2009 | post #3)

Honduras Vows to Turn Away President

Let's see if I understand State Department policy: The US CAN'T do much more than verbally complain to North Korea because it's a sovereign country, but we CAN tell Israel not to allow natural growth in settlements even though it's a sovereign country, but we CAN'T tell Iran not to fix elections and imprison and kill its citizens because it's a sovereign country, but we CAN tell Honduras not to remove its president for violating its constitution even though it's a sovereign country, but we CAN'T tell Mexico to respect US borders because it's a sovereign country, but we CAN tell Georgia not to fight in South Ossetia even though it's a sovereign country, but we CAN'T tell Egypt to free political prisoners because it's a sovereign country, but we CAN keep the Ukraine out of NATO even though it's a sovereign country, but we CAN'T tell China to free Tibet because it's a sovereign country.  (Jul 5, 2009 | post #1)

Saudis give nod to Israeli raid on Iran

I don't know if this story is true or not, but why should a reader believe anonymous sources? Shouldn't a claim be disprovable -- at least on some level? But how does one verify that the quote from "a diplomatic source" is true or false?  (Jul 5, 2009 | post #1)

Palestinian directors launch country's first commercial animate...

Why is the location referred to as "Occupied Ramallah"? Ramallah has always been occupied. It's never been a city within an independent Western Palestinian Arab state. Before Israel, Jordan occupied Ramallah. Before Jordan, the British occupied Ramallah. Before the British, the Ottoman Empire occupied Ramallah.  (Jul 2, 2009 | post #2)

Quest for Mideast peace drives camp in 17th season

This Israeli government is "hardline "? Without the National Union in the cabinet? Without wiping the rocket-launchers? Without pushing for the release of Jonathan Pollard? Without demanding that Gilad Schalit be visited by the red Cross? Without pushing for US embassy to re-locate to Jerusalem? I don't doubt that netanyahu has his reasons for not doing these things, but let's be real. He's a right-leaning centrist. He only looks like ahardliner compared to his submissive, appeasing predecessors like Peres, Olmert, Barak, and Sharon.  (Jun 30, 2009 | post #2)

Hamas politician urges Israel to accept truce

From Hamas' perspective, yes, I can see how they would consider Schalit to be a POW, especially since they are in a perpetual state of war with Israel. Therefore, they should allow the Red Cross to visit him.  (Jun 28, 2009 | post #11)
