Rubio's high-stakes push for immigration reform

It is not a case of thumbing ones nose at immigration law as much as recognizing that what we have is broken from the borders to the incentives business gives by continuing to knowingly hire illegals. And if it is possible to fully secure the borders and will the public be willing to pay no just for beefed up security but for higher prices for the goods and service dependent on cheap labor. In any serious discussion of the issue the question of what do we do with millions who are already here is big . It's a clear either\or choice. Either there is an amnesty of some type. Or you give the Gov't the power and resource's to deport millions, and live with all the consequences.  (Tuesday May 14 | post #46)

Rubio's high-stakes push for immigration reform

And what was it that Reagan did in response... nothing?...indicat ing either agreement or abandoning his duties... Either way your complaint lies as much with Reagan as any one else.. Also did H.W. try to alter that agreement or establish border security as a priority? Unless your telling me that H.W. and Reagan were not responsible for their action and inactions. A Republican participates in a mess and it's a Democrats fault, you must view republicans as spineless if they just go along, silently with the Democrats, who going back on their word  (Tuesday May 14 | post #45)

Rubio's high-stakes push for immigration reform

the same people will be here if you say no. your only hope of seeing border security addressed is by coupling it to reform. by the way last immigration reform was under Reagan? Who was followed by HW you got the who betrayed you slightly confused. by saying no how many fewer will be welcomed ?  (Saturday May 11 | post #5)

IRS Apologizes for Scrutiny of Conservative Groups

the IRS needs to issue apologies... resignations... just to start. My observation is why should anyone's political speech be tax payer subsided? Tax exempts should be engaged in charity. Political education is important but not charity...  (Saturday May 11 | post #33)

Rubio's high-stakes push for immigration reform

If immigration reform passes, the GOP may be divided but ... they can recover from that The coupling of immigration reform with border security is the only way border security gets addressed. thus it for the best. If it fails . You still have a divided GOP and one that will have killed off any hope of hispanic votes, and any hope of winning. You still have the same illegals. And the border dont get any more secure than it was before you said NO  (Saturday May 11 | post #3)

Republicans refuse to name members to healthcare panel

Private Insurance companies used to be able to decide who was going to get treated and who would not. They had set limits on what they would pay for a treatment. They narrowed down your treatment options by refusing to cover some treatments.... They used to be able to deny your pre-existing conditions They no longer can ... These are very popular portions of Obamacare The panel is designed to restrain costs.....suddenly you don't like restraining the costs of a Gov't program...I'll be damned.  (Thursday May 9 | post #17)

Ex-South Carolina governor Sanford beats Colbert Busch in...

Sanford won by 8% in a district Romney carried by by 18% By nominating a bozo the GOP gave up 10% of the electorate. There aren't many other districts that are bozo proofed  (Thursday May 9 | post #54)

O'Connor suggests misgivings over Bush vs. Gore

Buffcoat and Don are both more or less correct. Don is looking at a short term cycle. It is undeniable that the GOP and the Democrats have both moved right short term. Buffcoat is right in that history has a some what left ward trajectory to it. Thus over a most extended time frame all politics has moved left. Things considered left radical a hundred and fifty years ago, the end of slavery, the vote for women are now mainstream. Thought to be radically left once, were Progressive taxation and a social safety net. Maybe Buffcoat would like to see these things eliminated? Either way Buffcoat is right except for the last sentence, which is lame right wing excuse making.  (Thursday May 9 | post #123)

O'Connor suggests misgivings over Bush vs. Gore

I stated that politics ran incycles so ... not wrong. during the late sixties and through the seventies genuine lefties were very prominate inside the Democratic Party. Do George McGovern, Eugene McCarthey or Ramsey Clarke ring any bells? between 1968 and 1998 the Democrats lost 5 of 6 Presidential electiion, partial explaination, the voters reject radicalism. Between 1992 and today the GOP loses 4 of 6 Presidential elections, partial explaination, the voters reject radicalism  (Wednesday May 8 | post #112)

are you saying every base here and abroad is vital, none can be shutdown safely? Isn't the cost of maintaining them also weakening the country?  (Wednesday May 8 | post #12)

Senator Paul offers bill to weaken U.S. anti-tax evasion law

Paul is single handedly undermining efforts to collect legitimate taxes. His reasoning is specious. It is ok for the Gov't to tax offshore assets but... Gov't shouldn't be allowed obtain the information required to tax offshore assets.  (Wednesday May 8 | post #3)
