I agree that the expulsion is ridiculous. It seems clear that the kid was trying to be responsible by parking on the street, off school campus. Sure he made a mistake by not going home and putting them away first, but the punishment seems out of proportion to the "crime". To kick a student, especially one attempting responsibility, out of school and messing up his school records with an expulsion(not to mention then putting him into a school with troubled kids),seems to me to be an even bigger act of irresponsibility on the school boards part. I like the statement somebody above made. There is a difference between use and abuse. This just seems to be common sense to me. Anyone thinking honestly and rationally would have to admit there are abuses of any substance available for consumption. Sure there are potheads who abuse marijuana and become lazy and shiftless, just as there are alcoholics who do the same. I think the major difference is that it is easy to tell the person who is abusing it, it's quite obvious. The people who use it in much the same manner as having a beer after work are just not as visible,they work, pay taxes, raise kids responsibly, and in general are just like you. I work at a physically demanding job, raise my kids, and contribute back to society, and occasionally smoke MJ at the end of my very busy days. When I travel it doesn't go with me. I have been gone for a few weeks to take care of a sick sister and never even missed it. Didn't smoke for a couple weeks after I got back either, was busy getting caught up. It seems that there is a lack of common sense on both sides of this issue. It is a choice and not everyone uses,that is ok. Responding with posts that are rude, disrespectful, poorly written, and poorly spelled are not helping justify your cause at all. One poster brought up a point and was mocked instead of addressing what I considered a reasonable question concerning zoning. It seems some manners would go a long way toward gaining the acceptance many are seeking. (Friday Nov 13 | post #228)
