Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air on political scene

I'm mildly surprised at the support for Gov. Palin on this forum. So many from the East and Mid-West say that Appalachia is a huge mass of under-educated, sub-earners and totally dependent upon their government to exist. I know different and apparently most here prove my opinions. We are solid common sense Americans that are very aware of what made America great, and it wasn't government - it was hard work, self reliance and above all guts to stick it out and survive. No matter how this election pans out, we - here in Appalachia - will survive and most importantly, thrive. God bless America, God bless North Carolina and God bless Sarah Palin and that guy she is running with.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #31)

Hotels

In the small town adjacent to Sylva, Dillsboro, there is a Best Western right down on the river and a Holliday Inn Express just off hiway 74, exit 81. For a nice selection of vacation cabins try http://www.smokymt ngetaways.net/  (Jul 26, 2008 | post #2)

May 31, 2008 U.S. 74 Wreck

There was a local DSS worker killed in an accident this weekend, perhaps it was that accident.  (Jun 2, 2008 | post #2)

Plenty of festivals to enjoy in WNC

local: I'm not sure where you get that idea, it may be true in some instances, but most artisans that display at these fairs pay a fee to do so and their fees are supposed to offset the costs. Whether or not service providers are paid appropriately is another thread. I find these local affairs bring in lots of outside folks who then buy, drink and eat from local providers and everybody benefits - and they are always happy!  (Jun 2, 2008 | post #4)

Voter ID ruling a disservice to too many people

Does any one here have a clear concise argument as to why we should not have to identify ourselves in order to vote?  (May 21, 2008 | post #169)
