Well, here's a bright spot in an otherwise dirty stroy.... Pa. revokes high-volume puppy broker’s license http://www.philly. com/philly/news/br eaking/20091007_Pa __revokes_high-vol ume_puppy_brokers_ license.html From the article: "The Department of Agriculture stripped CC Pets LLC kennel owners Joyce and Raymond Stoltzfus of their kennel license only weeks before a six-month, court-imposed license suspension was to have expired." Tiger Raja euthanized; tumor found inoperable

My condolences to the remainin tiger... now no companion. Also, my empathy to the zoo and the caretakers... I'm sure they too will miss Raja. Question: any updates on Savannah, the elephant? I have been looking for news about her but haven't been able to locate any articles. Thanks...  (Sep 27, 2009 | post #7)

Christina (and others)... if you live close enough to this event, you may find answers to your questions... and a WHOLE LOT more that you didn't expect... about how low-end breeders operate. Don't miss the event... or at least.. log on to the website.  (Sep 12, 2009 | post #389)

Lab Dude & Liners85: seems like your lab babies are doing well. Here's hoping they bring each of you years of happiness. But the name ..... Stoltzfus.... yikes! One thing that's been overlooked here... how many pure breed puppies' parents are known to have been genetically tested to standards? Is anyone aware that genetic testing is available? Is anyone aware that standards exist for parent dogs... they should be of certain age, should have orthopedic testing done, eyes checked, DNA evaluated.. BEFORE they are allowed to breed? Low-end breeders don't have this testing done on the parent dogs prior to breeding. The main reason: they know YOU won't ask! Genetically UNsound dogs are allowed to breed much too young and over and over again ... resulting in poor orthopedic structure...hence bad hips and elbows in large breeds, luxating patellas in small breeds (and so much more). The unsuspecting public... they pay the cost of the low-end breeder's reluctance to test the parents... the puppies pay the extreme price for painful ailments AND multiple surgeries that may have been prevented. Lovaldogs is a champ... I admire that s/he continues to respond in this forum. Keep up the good work.... it's a great cause.  (Aug 23, 2009 | post #378)

High School Rodeo under investigation for animal abuse

My take on the whole rodeo thing is ... the animals have NO CHOICE. The animals are saddled up and/or flank strapped to inflict extreme discomfort, then forced out into the arena with a spurred rider on top trying to win some money and/or a name for himself. Rodeo is cruel... animals have no choice. BUT I DO!! I have never attended this 'entertainment' spectacle... and never will. Boycott rodeo...  (Aug 23, 2009 | post #36)

Recent posts about PetFinder has uncovered some 'millers' advertising their puppies. The postings were brought to the attention of PetFinder management... but the ads are still there. You have to be careful... yes, even on PetFinder.  (Jul 19, 2009 | post #329)

Lovaldgs: Thanks for that update! THAT'S REALLY HUGE!!! Good to know that professionals that continually stray from their pledge of ethics... CAN and will be prosecuted! SO... did anyone watch the NatGeo special? Opinions?  (May 10, 2009 | post #293)

68 Dogs Taken From Alleged Puppy Mill

Where was the AG dept BEFORE the confiscation? Shouldn't they have been there for the dogs in the first place... not in the last place? Seems like only the Humane Society (StLouis) has the resources to handle this many dogs and puppies at the same time. So who was the breeder?  (May 7, 2009 | post #2)

This coming Friday night May 8 on the National Geographic Channel, Last Chance for Animals and The Dog Whisperer will team up to present a very special episode about PUPPY MILLS. Please tune in if you can. Read more about it here.... http://ngccommunit y.nationalgeograph ic.com/ngcblogs/do g-whisperer/ .... this is Cesar Millan's blog on NatGeo website. And.. if you've learned anything at all from all of these posts... 1) do your research ... 2) stay away from PetLand stores ... 3) Adopt, don't shop! Too many dog lives are ended in shelters everyday because people insist that expensive is better. Well, guess what? IT AIN'T. Don't shop in petstores or online... please adopt from your shelter or breed-specific rescue.  (May 6, 2009 | post #290)

Trial date set for Jason Merrill

pardoe: Mr. Merrill may be your friend... but he's made a few SERIOUSLY wrong choices. One of his choices ended the lives of two very well-liked people of the area. Merrill brought pain and suffering to all of their relatives too... and not for just a short period of time either. Merrill must take responsibility for his choices and the end result... which will be prison. We can only hope that this tragedy put Merrill away for a very long time.  (Apr 29, 2009 | post #12)

Favorite Things:

Caffine, TV, and the Internet.

On My Mind:

The justice system and the daily failure of judges to impose a logical sentence for convicted criminals.

I Believe In:

Animals should be afforded the opportunity to live a good life. When that opportunity is exploited or abused, the CRIMINAL should bear the consequences.
