Septuplets' mother hopes to hold them soon

I can't imagine having seven babies at one time, let alone ten kids in all. This lady must be superwoman or something. I wish her luck in caring for them and raising them all to be healthy individuals.  (Monday Aug 18 | post #1)

Barrow County Dumping Homeless on Athens?

As I said there are ifs in my statements. I propose a solution IF the problem is real. I also said that the shelter is not doing well IF there is in fact a problem. But yes we will agree to disagree on our points of view.  (Jul 27, 2008 | post #21)

Barrow County Dumping Homeless on Athens?

First it is the Athens police department that says Winder is dumping the homeless on them. I never said anything about it being true or false. I said there was a possible solution to the problem of homeless anywhere and that would be to take old buildings and make them shelters/work houses where the homeless can EARN a room and food, even learn a trade to find a job, get a GED maybe, but that idea was shot down because it would raise taxes. We can't have it both ways. You either want to solve the problem or not spend any money. After offering up this solution I was told that a shelter already existed in the area. I even stood up and said I wasn't aware of this. And my last statement about that shelter refers to the original story. Athens says we are dumping, if that is true then those running the shelter are not doing it well. If they were doing it well we wouldn't have to dump the homeless anywhere now would we. But I was nice and offered the shelter a way out of looking bad(if the story is true) maybe there are too many people to help and that is why winder is dumping them on Athens. Out of sight, out of mind. And yes I defend those who serve and protect. Why should I not, but just because they are the enforcers of the law doesn't mean they should be above it. And they should be the ones setting the example through there actions for the rest of us. If this is the example they wish to set then it is a poor one. I hope you noted the IFs in everything that I said. There are many of them and it is what makes you confused as to which side of the "argument " I am on. See I'm not on either side. I'm looking at it from both angles or at least trying to.  (Jul 20, 2008 | post #19)

Boy Decapitated at Six Flags Amusement Park

It's sad that someone who had their whole life ahead of them had to die such a tragic death, but he was somewhere he should not have been, doing something he should not have been doing. About the only thing that could be worse then this is if his friend who was with him had died also, thank god that didn't happen. I feel bad for the parents of the boy, but hey where were you when your kid jumped two fences because he was too lazy to take the long way around like everybody else?  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #234)

Barrow County Dumping Homeless on Athens?

No I didn't know that. But apparently whoever does run it isn't doing very well or we wouldn't have to dump anyone on Athens. Then again there could just be too many to help. I don't know the numbers.  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #17)

$4-a-gallon regular arrives in NE Ga.

Ending the war in the Middle East is just a small part of the solution. There are other steps we can take as well. You mention a great one with green thinking. There are vehicles that don't run on crude oil products, but those in charge of oil production/sales don't want them on the market because then they would lose money. It always comes down to the all mighty dollar and how much of the little man(you and I) can put into the corporate giants bank account. Personally I'm sick of it. If I didn't have two kids under the age of five and one on the way I'd walk everywhere or ride a bicycle, anything to keep from paying $4+ a gallon at the pump.  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #6)

Should people on food stamp be able buy junk food?

Therein lies the problem. They are allowed to buy whatever they want. There are no guidelines no regulations on the way the assistance is used. That is why it is so easy for people to abuse the system. That is why people can buy slurpies and slim jims and then get into brand new vehicles. There is always room for improvement, but in this instance there would be no need for improvement to the system if people didn't abuse it to begin with.  (Jul 10, 2008 | post #139)

Should people on food stamp be able buy junk food?

I can honestly say I have been there. When my husband and I had our first child we were barely making $400 a week. We had rent and utilities, car payments and insurance, allt he same bills as everyone else, but we had very little money. Being part of the WIC program helped us to remain afloat. I saw women at the same stores as me using their vouchers for the right products, but then they would spend their cash on unhealthy foods, alcohol, and tobacco. It's not the system that needs the change. What the government assistance programs try to do is a good thing. But there are those out there who abuse the system, who do everything to be lazy and get a free ride. That is where the change is needed. Why should the government help someone who isn't willing to help themselves? Eventually my husband got a raise and then a better job with a better company and we were able to go off the assistance. We now even own a house. If him and I can do it, then so can every other person out there. The difference lies in the willingness to try.  (Jul 10, 2008 | post #127)

Barry Garrett helps to save lives, in more ways than one

We need more people like this man in the world. I applaud him for his heroic efforts not only as a firefighter, but as a donor as well. It only takes one small act of kindness(a blood donation, marrow donation, even a donation of your time) to save a life. We could all stand to give just a little more, myself included.  (Jul 10, 2008 | post #1)

There are solutions to the problem, but those in charge refuse to see them or use them. Personally I think if we stopped bombing the piss out of countries that we a)get oil from, or b)support the countries that we get oil from, we wouldn't have a problem to begin with. How smart do you have to be to figure it out? Oil producing company vs. nuclear bomb dropped by US; result high oil prices to stick it to us where it hurts our wallets.  (Jul 10, 2008 | post #4)

Pregnant Cat Brutally Killed In Gresham

It is true that most sociopaths, psychopaths, and murderers begin their "careers " with the abuse and killing of animals, typically small ones like cats. What makes this story more disturbing then others is the fact that the cat was going to have kittens. So in this case it is not only the slaughter of one cat, but of several. The person responsible, when caught, will face charges of animal cruelty, or animal abuse. Either way there are stiff fines and the possibility of jail time if the crime against the animal is sever enough. Which in this case I would say it is. They will also undergo a mandatory psychological evaluation to determine if there are any underlying psychosis as to why they would do such a terrible thing to an animal. I hope they are caught soon and get the help they so obviously desperately need.  (Jun 30, 2008 | post #13)

Supreme Court Rejects Death Penalty for Child Rape

YOu obviously don't have kids. Any parent who's child had suffered in this way would want to see the person responsible dead. It's just human nature. And for most parents they would want to be the ones who pull the trigger, flip the switch, or press the plunger.  (Jun 28, 2008 | post #20)

Not All Muslims Are Terrorists

I think Martin Luther King Jr. said it the best. "We have ancient habits to deal with, vast structures of power, indescribably complicated problems to solve. But unless we abdicate our humanity altogether and succumb to fear and impotence in the presence of the weapons we have ourselves created, it is as possible and as urgent to put an end to war and violence between nations as it is to put an end to poverty and racial injustice." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.  (Jun 28, 2008 | post #33)
