Nuclear energy is not renewable energy, PSC staff says

Not to be argumentative, but your definition of green only having to do with carbon emissions is not the definition of green for many of us. "Green" has to do with sustainability. Sustainability encompasses the whole big picture and that would include any waste and its effects on the environment in the big picture. So who can do the math? How much waste will be produced according to the amount of plants needed to be built and how much room will it take to store it and when would we run out of room to do so? Our planet is already becoming overcrowded and space is an issue. Has anyone come up with a projection to the practical side of this? Just asking.  (Sunday Oct 12 | post #38)

Intelligent Design: Coming To A State Legislature Near You

Shinning, thank you for your response. You are one of my touchstones in this forum. And honestly in my life as well. Not to get sappy, and not to make your wife feel at all uncomfortable with sharing you. But agree or not on any issue, you and a few others on this particular forum show the intelligence and respect that keep me positive that intelligent life does exist. Hope things are well in your neck of the woods (or city), the squirrels are really busy right now. I'm trying to think of these days as a point in evolution where we have the opportunity to blend nature and science and technology into ways to keep a sustainable situation for us all. I'm really not interested in trying to change people's feelings, thinking or religion as long as we all respect each others right to our own experience. But beyond that, let's find a magnificent common goal in trying to sustain our environment. It's a pretty cool planet and I think it should be enjoyed by all. I know, I'm an idealist.  (Saturday Oct 11 | post #20080)

Intelligent Design: Coming To A State Legislature Near You

Well, hello to my favorite forum. I am afraid politics has taken over. Even most of the science and tech forums seem to be mostly about politics. I do respect and understand "shinning electron's" position about not wanting to bring politics to our discussions here. I do miss the discussions on this most intelligent forum. It is true unfortunately that politics will play a part in this very topic it seems as the views here are a big part of the politics of today. I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation for the people who participate in this particular forum and how much I miss their feedback on our daily life experiences and how much I have learned because of their humor, patience and genuine caring.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #20075)

Will you leave the country if Barrack Obama Elected???

Excuse me, but have you got any idea ,at all, that there is a world wide financial crisis happening right now? London will not offer you any refuge as far as taxes, unless maybe you are somehow connected and have more money than God right now. Are you one of them? Oh well. Let me know your address, would you? I always wanted to visit London. But I happen to be one of those under $250,000 a year and have worked hard. Almost all holidays, paid or not, six and seven days a week, with no inheritance from anyone and no money in the family to secure my future. So I happen to like Obama's plan. I watched my 401k not make any money for the last year. But I will have "faith" and not hate and some accountability for my life and some vigilance and in the meantime love my life as much as I can.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #644)

Palin equals more of the same

Thank you. Sometimes I feel very alone. And sometimes I can't express so well the way you have how I feel without going in lots of emotional directions. You have expressed very simply how I feel about what is happening today in our society as far as the "wave" of fear seems to keep its grip on many. That leader needs to not exclude anyone. That is how we can know he is a person for all people.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #117)

Palin equals more of the same

Ayers and Obama lived in the same neighborhood, thus their children, it seems would attend the same school. If Ayers said he wished he had done more after 911, what did he mean. Please be more specific if you wish to report facts, be fair, influence public opinion, and be truthful. Did he mean, do more to prevent it? You are so vague. What exactly do you mean? I will post again something I have posted before on other forums. Something to strive for. At least I do although I don't always manage to do so. The Four Agreements; 1) Be Impeccable With Your Word Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love. 2) Don't Take Anything Pesonally; Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering. 3) Don't Make Assumptions Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life. 4) Always Do Your Best Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstances, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #114)

Palin equals more of the same

McCain had to tell his own supporters that "Obama is a decent man and you don't need to be afraid of him if he is President". A quote from a clip of him at one of his recent rallies. I have to say that it took more courage than I expected from the man to say that in front of the racists crazy audience. Of course then again, it could be another ,you know, who was the crying reverend that sinned and cried on TV? Tammy Fayes husband or Jimmy Swaggart or one of "those guys". That pleaded for forgiveness from his television audience and many believed.e that If he was sincere, I applaud his courage for saying it, that Obama is no one to fear and a sincere person. I hope he was sincere when he said it and won't let his "advisors " try to turn it into something else. If he had taken the high road in the first place he wouldn't be here. But knowing the history of this country, change comes slow and racism and fear (reigning the last 8 years) is slow to move on. Laws are passed reflecting the ideals of everyman created equal, but the mentality still exists. You can't change thinking through legalities only. But we are making progress. I do believe it, although we still have challenges. Change can be good.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #113)

if you REALLY want to know the truth about anything you will question everything, not blindly take the word of anybody until you yourself have investigated every avenue available. Obama never said he even knew or saw Ayers when Obama was a child. The FACTS are that he was a child when Ayers was involved with the underground group called the weathermen. Today Ayers is a professor. He like many other rebels and some extremists of their time have become part of the system. Think Abby Hoffman, Black Panthers (now an organization that helps needy families). Many that were dissatisfied with the current government at the time(Nixon) became radicals. Not all that was done under that umbrella was righteous or even okay. But the dissatisfaction with the status quo was reminiscent of today. And many realized over time that becoming part of the solution worked better (maybe?). The point is many radical of the '60's are and have been part of our political background and involvement and groups that PARTICIPATE in government. McCain also knows people that were on the same committee that Obama and Ayers were on. As has been said before, how many degrees of separation does it take to not be connected to Ayers. The fact of the matter is , Ayers is no longer the same radical of the '60's, more an activist these days and to assume otherwise and make this ridiculous connection as a terrorists is BS.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #105)

Hey how about this? You just made me think of it. What if Palin and hubby's real plan is to make her VP, hope McCain dies ( a possibility), then somehow they think they will be in position to help their old friend and make Alaska the nation's new capitol and the rest of us part of the new nation "The United States of Alaska". We all know what they were up to in Alaska. And she is a bit full of herself and what she thinks she has been "called" to do.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #102)

It is common knowledge and been on the news several times that McCain's campaign manager was receiving money from Fannie Mae up to a couple months ago. Whether McCain knew or not has not been disclosed. But his manager was receiving the money. Do minimal research and you will find this out.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #98)

'That One' Remark Becomes Debate Highlight

Seems to me you might be advocating taking down the White House if someone gets elected that you don't like. How is this different from Bobby Ayres. Sounds like terrorism to me.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #339)

'That One' Remark Becomes Debate Highlight

These statements aren't damning at all. This is what's called honesty. Obama has obviously done much self examination and soul searching and has been honest about feelings he has experienced in his life. To take all of these out of context and try to proclaim that this illustrates who he is today and that he wasn't experiencing what would understandably be what a mixed race youth would feel is dishonest on your part. And there are many legitimate Muslims that should be protected and supported along with all other religions as our Constitution provides. There have been times in my own life when I have been ashamed of being white. Some of the atrocities perpetrated by whites against other races are shameful. But this was a part of my growth and a feeling I have matured from and understand that not all feelings we have when we are learning in this lifetime are seeing life from all angles. While it is still shameful that many whites have acted horribly towards other races I now understand that the same venom and hatred exists in all races and all religions. There are just "bad" people and they come in all colors and belief systems. To try to make more out of Obama's statements then his being honest about feelings he has experienced in his lifetime is hypocritical. It is blatant racism and/or ignorance that doesn't understand this.  (Friday Oct 10 | post #338)

'That One' Remark Becomes Debate Highlight

McCain is using "lynch mob" mentality tactics to fervor people into a mad frenzy. It is deplorable, he has no class and once again some people are rallying around the fear. I hope Obama doesn't get suckered into his button pushing. He does have every right to defend himself against these BS accusations. I guess you can tell by now that this one is voting for "that one".  (Thursday Oct 9 | post #282)
