i need advice!!!

I had the flares back to back to back for months. I also had a perforated colon. It's called a smoldering abcess. Can you go to an ER? You need to have more done than continuous antibiotics and most Dr's won't do a colonoscopy if you have had a flare within six weeks as it could perforate your colon. I had a resection surgery in May. Much better now.  (Nov 29, 2012 | post #2)

Chrissy. Let us know how it goes. Remember if you're taking flagyl on your trip no alcohol.  (Sep 30, 2012 | post #5241)

Diverticulitis Surgery Complications

I had those same feelings after my surgery Jean. It takes awhile for things to settle down. Everything made me nervous because I didn't know what to expect. I hope you continue to relax and repair.  (Sep 30, 2012 | post #323)

Advice for After Colon Resection?

Re: constipation...had my resection surgery in May. I've been constipated since about one month following surgery. Many OTC remedies didn't work. So I have been using a fleet enema twice a day since then. I just use warm water. Have an appointment with gastro to ask if it's dangerous but to me it's better than laxatives.  (Sep 30, 2012 | post #3055)

WNYLady You did the right thing...or the correct thing. As a retired teacher I know you're going to feel like you're letting the kids down and that you must be letting other people down. Trust me. You will be the better for it. You're whole body needs to rest and repair. Even your head. And if you need to cry, just do it. The kids and the school will get through it all without you. Maybe not as well as if you are there...but they'll be fine. Of course they need documentation. That's the business side. They don't distrust you. They're just doing their job. AND I went from a 3-4 combination to a high school class. Believe me it's an adjustment. AND I'd say it takes your body (not to mention your rectum) at least 6 weeks, if not 10, to get back to your new normal. You can push yourself. But it's just not good for you. The Lord's prescribed for you is my prayer.  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #2850)

Could be thrush. I get that after antibiotics. You can get "rectal thrush" as well. You'll need to get antifungal to swish in your mouth.  (Aug 2, 2012 | post #4849)

I think so of it like this...you change what you eat if you have strep throat...you wouldn't crawl around on your knees if you had stitches on your knee...you change your diet with appendectomy. Your intestines and anastomosis need to go back to your normal diet slowly. Just my opinion.  (Jul 21, 2012 | post #2701)

To go to Doc or not

You pretty much need to because your risk of perforation etc. Mine was infected all the time and just grew worse on and off until I had 7 flares between Oct and Jan. I had apparently had a slow perforation prior to this.  (Jul 19, 2012 | post #2)

Caroline So sorry you lost your mom. I think G is correct. I had peritonitis at age 30. I was in the hospital for a month. I had a large abdominal hemotoma also. But made it through. It's harder when you're older. I'm glad you were there with her.  (Jul 11, 2012 | post #3)

Well that makes sense that that would make your bones hurt. Glad you have something to help with the pain. Strangely they give me Cymbalta for mine. Crazy but it works. Glad you're here for people going through your similar circumstances. My sister wouldn't go for testing and ended up passing because she was afraid of the testing and care.  (Jul 9, 2012 | post #19)
