My sister is a highly-respected resident of western Lebanon County. My mom is on a western Lebanon County school board, and is well-respected by members of both political parties. Now look at who comes out smelling like  (Saturday Nov 14 | post #13)

"...no Harley would never make it off the factory floor." I forgot to edit it to "no Harley would ever make it..." when I changed that sentence from "A Harley would never make it off the factory floor". My apologies!  (Saturday Nov 14 | post #5)

In regards to the Chevy commercial making fun of the Honda lawn mower, Honda makes quite a few items that Chevy can't compete with. Let's start with their line of motorcycles. Not one U.S. car manufacturer makes bikes. However, two Japanese manufacturers do - Honda and Suzuki. Honda makes the best motorcycles in the industry. The legendary Gold Wing is by far the best bike on the market. Honda makes a full line of bikes. Don't you rednecks give me crap about Harley-Davidson, even though it was made in York, PA for many years. Harley sticks to a design that was obsolete 50 years ago and continues to trade on that mistake...err...my stique. If I was a quality-assurance manager for a motorcycle manufacturer, no Harley would never make it off the factory floor. They run like a paint shaker. Harley even tried to patent that "potato-potat o" sound that sounds like the bike's engine is misfiring. Harley only has a couple of models, and no "crotch rockets" or dirt bikes. It also seems that no American motorcycle manufacturer is able to build a bike without that obsolete V-twin engine. Honda also makes the best generators on the market, as well as lawn & garden equipment, pumps, outboard motors and personal watercraft - and even a small private jet aircraft! Honda, for many years, made far better cars than anything GM offered. Personally, I drive a '92 Jeep Cherokee which has nearly 288,000 miles on it. I have owned three Chevies and had nothing but problems with two of them. I have owned two Honda products and they lasted a lot longer than the Chevies.  (Saturday Nov 14 | post #4)

I know one thing - I have two Canadian friends. One lives in suburban Ottawa, Ontario and the other lives in suburban Montréal, Québec. Both have been Canadians all their lives. The one in Montréal is a second-generation Ukrainian-Canadian and speaks Ukrainian, English and "hockey French" fluently. I've kiddingly suggested to both that they emigrate to the U.S. Both turned me down for the exact reason that they don't want any part of the current U.S. health care system. Why not let those who are uninsured or those who can't get affordable health insurance through their jobs take this public option? Medicare has been around for nearly 45 years and it has helped millions of senior citizens! I just had to switch my health insurance yesterday because the price nearly doubled. My new policy, through the same carrier, still costs more than the old one did prior to the premium increase, yet provides me with far less. Instead of a $20 co-pay, it will now cost me $30 to see a doctor. After the 10% pay cut I took earlier this year, I can no longer afford to see my family doctor. Why doesn't the City of Lebanon haul its own trash like most other cities do? I grew up in Upper Moreland Township, Montgomery County (which is a first-class township of about 25,000 people), and they have hauled their own trash for as long as I can remember in township-owned trash trucks. The neighboring Borough of Hatboro (around 8,000 people) has also hauled its own trash for as long as I can remember (I'm 45). I also lived in Warminster Township, Bucks County (a second-class township of about 32,000 people) for 18 years. When I first moved there, you could choose your trash hauler. The township board of supervisors soon signed a contract with a single hauler, but soon became disappointed with them and chose another hauler as soon as the contract expired.  (Sep 13, 2009 | post #8)

Is it because most of the domestic manufacturing jobs were sent overseas during the George W. Bush administration? Try buying something that's not "Made In China" these days, except for automobiles - even many Fords are "hecho en Mexico". For you NASCAR nuts in Lebanon County, think of this - out of the four cars currently represented in that sport, only one is built in the United States - and that's the Toyota Camry. The Fords are built in Mexico while the Dodges and Chevies are built in Canada.  (Sep 13, 2009 | post #28)

At least Filth-adelphia doesn't literally smell like bull$#!+, unlike most of Lebanon County. ;-) From what I have seen by my deep roots in Lebanon County (my mom & sister live there, and I claim dual residency there as well along with my Bucks County residency), there are so many closed-minded rednecks there that only give a crap about themselves. When it comes to a $#!+hole, how about looking at your OWN county seat, the city of Lebanon (or is it "San Juan North  (Sep 12, 2009 | post #10)

Be a pal, Pennsylvania, and quit selling fireworks, New Jersey ...

Also to New Jersey residents: Learn what a turn signal switch is for!!! I don't know why New Jersey drivers have such an aversion to using a blinker. Back to topic, I wish Pennsylvania allowed our residents to buy "real" fireworks - I have to go to Ohio to get decent stuff like bottle rockets and Roman candles, but it's on my way to Michigan, as I go there once a year for a car club event  (Mar 30, 2008 | post #37)

Director: Quakertown middle school principal was to be fired --...

My mother is a member of a Lebanon County school board, and it is quite the reverse out there. The superintendent had been in full control of the school board prior to last November's election (in which my mother won her seat). A perfectly-servicea ble high school, built in the early 1960s, had been replaced despite objections from much of the community, and the old building was razed in a big hurry although the majority of the residents wanted it to be preserved as a recreation center, so 5 of the 9 school board members were voted out last fall. Mom had no experience in education, however, she is a woman of very high integrity (a rare politician that can't be bought!!) and she impressed voters on both sides of the aisle  (Mar 30, 2008 | post #39)

I can't drive 55!!!

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was someone complaining about Richland Twp., Bucks County eliminating the 55 mph speed limit from all roads in that township, including PA 309 and PA 313. Both major roads have recently been lowered to 45 mph, even in desolate stretches. Also, in the same township, California Rd. was lowered in one stretch from a perfectly-safe 40 mph to a ridiculously-low 25 mph.  (Mar 30, 2008 | post #3)

Sen. Leahy says Clinton should drop out of race -- Political Ca...

Unfortunately, racism is still alive in America. Your description of Sen. Clinton is on the mark. To paraphrase a memorable Joan Crawford line in the movie, "The Women" (1939): "There's a word for ladies like you. It's not used in high society - outside a kennel  (Mar 30, 2008 | post #56)

Sen. Leahy says Clinton should drop out of race -- Political Ca...

I agree with everything Cyclops Rex said, except for two things: American money is printed in two facilities owned by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving & Printing, a government agency. These facilities are in Washington, DC and Fort Worth, TX. You can tell a Fort Worth bill by the check digits on the right side of the reverse of a bill - if it has FW in the number, it's a Texas-printed bill. Barack Obama is not a corporate slave - in fact, he is the only one of the three major candidates who is not taking corporate or PAC money. As far as what Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) said to Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), I'm surprised she didn't tell him the exact same thing that Vice President **** Cheney once said to Leahy on the Senate floor  (Mar 30, 2008 | post #55)
