Church of Scientology wants Gizmo building

The only people making sense in this thread are Xenu and JW. The fact that Xenu makes sense to me is disturbing. Meanwhile, Albuquerque, look at beautiful, downtown, Cult Central Clearwater Florida to see what will happen to your thriving art and cultural zone if the Co$ moves in. Your sidewalks will be filled with culties selling books and recruiting your children. What fun!  (10 hrs ago | post #5)

Back-Door Messiah? New L. Ron Hubbard Publishers Don't Mention ...

As a very long time reader of SF and Fantasy, including Flubbards contemporaries in the Golden Age of SF, I find this attempt at reaching today's kids kind of desperate and sadly out of touch. I have a huge collection of old SF with those kinds of covers, and my kids won't touch them. The imagery does not appeal to them. So my Edgar Rice Burroughs and Andre Norton and Robert Heinlein goes unread, while my teenager devours Star Wars novels. In this particular case, though, I am certainly glad. Even if they donate free books to school libraries, I doubt they would be picked up and read. As a former bookseller, I fondly remember stripping out overstock copies of Flubbards paperbacks, and marveling at the really bad prose.  (20 hrs ago | post #1)

Playing with trolls is kind of like when my cat catches a lizard or frog and plays with it until something unfortunate happens, like it's tail comes off or guts come out. Then you can't play with it anymore.  (Wednesday Oct 1 | post #20)

Scientology link at Montessori school alarms parents

I have come to the conclusion that Cousin Jethro is a true internet forum troll who is as much a scientologist as the fictional Cousin Jethro he wishes he was. We have gone from conspiracy nut to freezoner with an interest in astronomy on the fringes. His responses in other forums are as nonsensical and disjointed as they are here, and he's been tagged a nut there also. OMHO Do not feed the troll.  (Monday Sep 29 | post #67)

What was our topic again? oh yeah, STUDY TECH. Here is an excerpt from my favorite study tech website http://www.studyte ch.org/study_tech. php By Dr. David S. Touretzky Computer Science Department & Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition Carnegie Mellon University * Study Tech's course materials are taken directly from Scientology scriptures, often word-for-word. Religious materials do not cease to be religious simply by virtue of being given a different cover. L. Ron Hubbard himself declared Study Tech to be "part of the Tech of Scientology." Study Tech can therefore accurately be described as being "pervasively sectarian." * The provision of Study Tech is not "indisputably marked off from the religious function" of the Church of Scientology. Study Tech is an integral part of Scientology doctrine. It is taught in all Scientology Churches, and is compulsory for all Scientologists. No distinction is made in Scientology between Study Tech and any other part of Scientology doctrine, and Scientology policy makes no mention of Study Tech being secular (quite the opposite, in fact). Study Tech cannot be described as being unrelated to "the religious mission of religious organizations. " This, together with the previous concern, would very likely count as "excessive entanglement" between the state and religion. * Scientology plainly sees Study Tech as a principal weapon in its doctrinally-inspir ed goal of eliminating psychiatry and psychology from public schools. This does not by itself make Study Tech unconstitutional, as the Lemon test permits a religious purpose as long as it is accompanied by "a bona fide secular or civic purpose." However, the Supreme Court's ruling in McLean looked closely at the motives of the supporters of scientific creationism, finding that they were heavily influenced by purely sectarian concerns. If the issue of Study Tech were ever to go before the courts, it is likely that Scientology's sectarian hatred of psychiatry would be a major issue and would count against Study Tech.  (Monday Sep 29 | post #44)

Will Smith Shows Off Scientology Brainwashing

I must say, I am not at all surprised that our government has been and is still involved in all kinds of bizarre crap, especially since the onset of the technological age in which we now live. However, I could have gone my lifetime happily without picturing the Republican leaders of the past decades frolicking in the woods with torches and funny gowns, reliving their college fraternity parties for weeks on end in the woods of the Bohemian Groves, which is where my exploration of your conspiracy links lead me. I can only say, what the hell are they thinking when they do this stuff? It's pretty embarrassing to this country to think that otherwise dignified people enjoy these silly games. Yuck. IF you want me to believe this stuff is more than silly games, though, I need proof. Docs or stfu. Testimony unsubstantiated by proof is not enough.  (Sunday Sep 28 | post #33)

Scientology on trial in France

The Scientology conspiracy is laid out in the words and actions of the "source" . It is documented by the media, by legal proceedings, by video and audio evidence. It is not the unsubstantiated stories told by your favorite guru, and yes I watched some of her stuff. As for the misdeeds of our government, it will all be seen and judged in the light of day. Not in some shadow world.  (Friday Sep 26 | post #338)
