Sump stench plagues neighborhood in Torrance
Just whatever you do, DON'T turn it into a greenbelt! Property values will PLUMMET if you do anything other than leave it a stinky sump. http://www.dailybr eeze.com/news/ci_1 3825754 Apparently in West Torrance, living next to a sump actually increases property value. Somehow. (Sunday Nov 22 | post #8)
T-Mobile pole near Taper Elementary draws fire
At 100 feet away, the level is NONE AT ALLIf they're hugging it for that many hoursThen why aren't you covering your kids in aluminum foil? Solar radiation is a LOT worse than that tower across the street. The reason is because your kid would look like an idiot. Same reason you don't make your kid wear a football helmet everywhere in order to avoid any potential head injury. No, you don't do EVERYTHING you can to keep your kid safe, and neither do I quite frankly. There are reasonable risks we take for granted. Playing sports is WAY more dangerous than a cell tower 100 feet away. But somehow this cell tower, which poses no threat, has become a target for the misinformed overreactionaries. Thank you. I had no idea that GlaxoSmithKline, Baxter and Sanofi-Aventis were government agencies. (Thursday Nov 19 | post #30)
T-Mobile pole near Taper Elementary draws fire
The tower is on the other side of a 100-foot-wide street. The 'RADIATION' (your caps) isn't radioactive nuclear fallout. Do you even have the slightest idea how far electromagnetic radiation carries across open air? You obviously don't know the risksAnd all the ones that do have cell phones up against their ears (and all other cell phone users) are receiving a hell of a lot more electromagnetic radiation than what that tower across the street is putting out. Voting rights law pays off for its authors
"A judge is reviewing the bill submitted to Madera. To pay, Stafford said the district would have to slash money for books and lunches for its mostly Hispanic students, an odd consequence for a law intended to aid Hispanics." That was not meant to aid Hispanics so much as to aid the two lawyers who drafted it. If there was ever a law that needed to be overturned, it's this one. Next they'll be trying to sue individual voters for voting for non-minority candidates. (Monday Nov 16 | post #2)
Really? I wasn't aware that the government is the actual producer of the flu shot. Thank you for keeping us accurately informed. (Monday Nov 16 | post #19)
Obama to China: Uncensored society is healthy
When did Faux News lose its broadcasting license? When have they been censored in any fashion? I think my favorite is when they run an anti-Obama story but when there aren't enough protesters, they'll run footage of a larger rally from a few months before and claim those numbers as the protest turnout. Yeah, that's "Fair and Balanced" and responsible journalism. And no, they don't get censored even when they splice their stories together to create an event. If I'm wrong, then please do give an example of when they went off the air because of an unfavorable opinion. You would rather have honest news repressed and the airwaves filled with literally invented stories, you claim censorship where there is none, and you think there's something wrong with the rest of us. Obama to China: Uncensored society is healthy
That's great, that you love free speech but hate journalismAre you angry? Were you this angry when the last president was giving tax credits to corporations for offshoring their jobs? Talk about selling your nation... (Monday Nov 16 | post #5)

Molestation jurors: Did we get it wrong?
WOW. This from a guy who hasn't even signed up on Topix to set a permanent screen name. Can anyone say "cyber-stalke r"? I mean, not that YOU are a cyber-stalker; you sound perfectly calm and rational. But I'm sure ~other~ people would love to get names and numbers. (Saturday Nov 14 | post #85)
Lomita City Manager Tom Odom resigns
Oh that's funny. The City of Lomita just HAD an election, the new City Council HASN'T EVEN BEEN SWORN IN YET and you're yelling, "Recall! " before they can even take their seats. Are you an idiot? Or is your love of bureaucracy so strong that you think the best use of tax dollars is a never-ending election cycle? (Saturday Nov 14 | post #13)
Gun sellers arrested in Torrance, Redondo Beach raids
I think that's the first time I've ever been called an 'intellectual'. I'm not sure how "left" got into it. Maybe that's a label applied to anyone who even questions gun ownership for criminals. I have NEVER been against gun ownership for law-abiding individuals. I AM however ignorant, which is why I ask questions: to learn things and to hear other peoples' opinionsThe legality of buying guns isn't a "red herring". It was the main point of the news article, explaining how the police came to investigate the residence and the main charges against the suspectsAgain, I agree that protecting ones self (or others around you) is appropriate and justI wasn't really arguing a point. I think you mean people who ask questions and want to hear explanations of your opinions are the problem. For some people, anyone who doesn't blindly jump on a particular bandwagon must be given derogatory labels and treated like some kind of enemyWow. I'm guessing that this is your answer from when I asked how gun-control laws protect criminals. I absolutely did not equate 'selling guns out of a car in Long Beach' with an anti-government monologue until I read your response. Thank you for the explanation; I'm sure we all now see how that all ties in together. I know this is getting a bit off-topic, but I have never heard of a gun owner around here "opting out" of not paying for a particular spending project. Do YOU get to decide which portions of your income withholding goes to which part of the federal budget? (Friday Nov 13 | post #37)
A Messy Situation in Torrance neighborhood
Oh heck no. That's the beauty of these forums: that you can spout off any crap you want behind the safety of a screen name. Hell, some people even change their screen names with each post just for 'plausible deniability'. We demand accountability from our officials, our newspapers and our neighbours (the whole point of this article), but damn if we practice it ourselves. (Friday Nov 13 | post #186)
