Planes clip wings near Salt Lake loading gate
The Southwest plane was struck BY the Fed Ex plane. The Southwest plane had already been pushed from the gate and was sitting stationary on the taxiway when it happened. Fed Ex owes Southwest a wing. (5 hrs ago | post #4)
Southwest Airlines strikes out in airline food survey; Continen...
Why does Southwest "strike out"? They make no claims of offering any sort of onboard food of note.. Why is this article even mentioning Southwest, and taking it a step further and having it "strike out"? In a related story, Continental strikes out in a recent review of airlines who charge nothing for bags. (Yesterday | post #4)
Rule would boost unions at airlines, railroads
Oh I LOVE this spin. I've never heard this one before.. Unions FORCED jobs overseas? So I suppose our wages should have been competitive with the Indian sweat shops? (Thursday Nov 12 | post #40)
Reports say Denver loses 250 Frontier Airlines jobs - KDVR
What a friggin mess.. I have a hard time understanding how this is the better alternative to accepting the bid from Southwest.. There's no secret that Southwest intended to merge Frontier into Southwest but at least they were up front about it. Now the other shoe falls that MAYBE Republic wasn't the savior to Frontier in DEN that everyone had touted them to be. Is anyone shocked? Southwest would have hired ALL of the Frontier people just as they did with Morris and Midway Airlines, and everyone would be much better off. Not to mention Southwest would have benefited greatly from the assets it would have acquired in the deal.. This has all been an incredible waste. Republic will inevitably fail and this will all have been a major blunder. (Tuesday Nov 10 | post #9)

Lawmakers Seek Ban On Laptops In Cockpits
This is the kind of nonsense that has to end.. Lawmakers always seem to feel obligated to pass these types of stupid laws after any sort of incident.. Ok great, now we're all safe, until a pilot becomes distracted by his Iphone, then Iphones will be banned. Then we'll definitely be safe, until a pilot gets distracted by his personal DVD player, then another law will follow.. Fast forward 100 years, and we have SO many stupid laws that it's just completely ridiculous. We need less laws. Holding individuals accountable for their stupid actions is the simple solution.. Making stupid laws that ruin things for people down the line who may be more responsible is NOT the way to go.. (Tuesday Nov 3 | post #3)
UAL reports $57 million 3Q loss
I am actually somewhat impressed by this report. Perhaps United can climb back into profitability after all. I was expecting a $XXX million dollar loss for the quarter. $56 million is quite acceptable. If the economy picks up over the next year (and it should as the recession is officially over), it should only get better. (Oct 20, 2009 | post #2)
Southwest Airlines gives a dismal outlook
You have to understand the state of things in the airline industry right now. It's an industry that is barely even solvent. Airlines deal with unbelievable overhead costs (fleets of hundreds of $50+ million dollar planes, fuel, salaries, airport fees), an airline is lucky to scrape a $1,000 profit from each flight. It's like a 0.3% return on their investment each time they operate a flight. Any small fluctuation in ANYTHING can turn everything upside down. In this environment, profits are not even a topic of conversation. It's about survival right now in hopes of better times ahead. Southwest is doing unbelievably well all things considered. The other airlines will post hundreds of millions of dollars in losses. (Oct 16, 2009 | post #4)

Where can this be seen in the US, I'd love to see some candid O'Leary. I want to see if he's as nuts as we all think he might be. (Oct 12, 2009 | post #2)
Lufthansa to Offer In-Flight Web, Phone
On second thought, this may not be a bad idea as long as the airline charges like $3 a minute for the service.. You won't have every stroke and their brother in law blabbing away at that rate. I guess it's no different than the old credit card swipe phones they had years ago.. (Oct 12, 2009 | post #3)
Lufthansa to Offer In-Flight Web, Phone
Inflight phone is a TERRIBLE IDEA!!! The one sanctuary that we had left from annoying cell phone blabbers is about to be desecrated. Can you imagine 6 hours stuck on a plane with a plane full of blabber mouths? (Oct 12, 2009 | post #1)
Southwest takes punctuality prize
LOL,.. Oh, are you tired of people constantly mentioning that Southwest has no bag fees? After all it only makes about a $100 difference on average.. And as a matter of that bag fees have indeed been ruled out. Not only does Southwest find them to be undesirable, but they currently don't have any system in place to be able to accept bags fees even if they WANTED to.. (Oct 8, 2009 | post #13)
Southwest takes punctuality prize
People can try and take shots at Southwest all they want. The simple fact us that they're the best, period. The lowest fares, the most extensive US route network, no fees, the most on time, and the best customer service. (Oct 7, 2009 | post #1)
