Maine's referendum on gay marriage law is too close to call

Until 2003, there were Sodomy laws outlawing same-sex intercourse. Currently, gays cannot serve openly in our armed forces- whereas, heterosexuals can. DOMA prevents our federal government from recognizing any form of civil union or same-sex marriage. In many states, employers can fire an employee at will for simply being gay, or transgenderedRerea d your statement, please. You state that gays are not being denied civil rights, yet you also believe we are "seeking to force acceptance... " Why would we seek such a thing if we were not being denied basic rightsFor not being gay, you sure seem to have an answer to all of our problems. Too bad you're dead wrong. We pay more in taxes, we have very few openly-gay politicans, and being gay is inherent. Sexual orientation is not a choice, just ask any medical professional. And yes, we are a minority group- stop being dense.  (Monday | post #415)

Ironically, you're trying to redefine marriage. Traditional marriage refers to the father selling off his daughter to the highest bidder. Allowing gay people to marry won't "redefine " marriage; it will continue to be two people committing to each other 'til death.  (Sunday | post #967)

How is it you know him (or her) better than they know themself? Yes, a lifestyle implies a choice; however, anyone with a doctrine in psychiatry will tell you that sexual orientation is not a choice.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #793)

This country was not founded on "popular vote". Are you familiar with the Separation of PowersClearly, you have been too busy taking your shirt off and posing for pictures, and have neglected to enroll in a civics class. The Gay Rights Movement is a civil right movement. Just as the Blacks had their movement, women had their liberation, plus the Chicano MovementActually, (escort with his shirt off on a gay forum) there are events occuring today in the United States that reflect hate crimes towards gays. Such events include: being fired for being gay, being kicked out of restaurants for being gay, being killed for being gay, etc. In the 1960s, people were arrested for being gay, and until 2003 there were Sodomy laws outlawing same-sex intercourse. (This is the part where you use that money from whoring and enroll in college.)  (Friday Nov 6 | post #786)

Wow. I'm going to have a difficult time breaking this down for you because you are undoubtedly an idiot. But, here goes nothing... Being a citizen I should have the same rights and entitlements bestowed to me as they are granted for you. You can legally marry the person you love; however, I cannot. That is unequal. Furthermore, why do you constantly refer to us as "they"? We are all people and just because our sexual orientation may differ should not give you reason to dehumanize us.  (Friday Nov 6 | post #721)
