Letter: Politicians can't read their own bills
Well gramps, I don't disagree with you on that one entirely. On that note, I don't understand what the big deal is with a government run, public option. I like freedom, which means having choices. Now, if the government wants to say, create a public option health insurance to compete with the private insurance companies, to me, that's more choices one has, which means, more freedom. However, it's looking as if everyone in Washington is running as fast as they can away from any public option idea, yet, from what I have read, they want to make it mandatory to have insurance. Now, mandates are the opposite of having a choice, thus, the opposite of freedom. These teabaggers have it all backwards I'm afraid. They should be standing up for more freedom & instead are dancing to the insurance companies fiddle. Not to be misunderstood, I feel that ALL insurance is a major scam whether it's government run or privately run. Insurance=scam, period. So, in the name of freedom, I feel that giving people more choices as to the insurance scam they want to buy into is a good thing. Making a scam mandatory is not. (Oct 19, 2009 | post #23)
Letter: Artoberfest thrives because of Lucero
Yeah, but they used REAL horses back then!! Now THAT would be cool, but these days it's a liability, somebody will sue because they're allergic to horses or their kid got trampled on or whatever. It's just such a sad commentary on our society. (Oct 19, 2009 | post #5)
Letter: Politicians can't read their own bills
How many Americans are already dying because of our arrogant dependence on drugs & surgery to, supposedly, "cure" our ills? Let's see, there about 150,000 people a year dead due to physicians prescribing the wrong medication...anoth er approximately 150,000 die from the CORRECT medication, then there's all the incidents that go unreported each year, not to mention all the side effects from medications that are treated, you guessed it, by more medication...I don't currently have the numbers for botched or fatal surgeries, but, I think I've made my point...when somebody TRULY wants to overhaul our health care system I'll be listening, but what everybody's arguing about these days is simply just HEALTH INSURANCE overhaul, which is NOT health care reform. Good luck y'all! (Oct 16, 2009 | post #20)

I just read that the president was scheduled to receive the Country Music Artist of the Year award AND the Heisman Trophy also. Pretty cool, you've got to admit... (Oct 16, 2009 | post #33)

I really hope that all the 'Artoberfest' festivities bring some money to this town because parading around on fake horses is one of the dumbest ideas EVER. But if it actually makes Chico some money, then so be it, good for all of us. (Oct 14, 2009 | post #3)

Storm could leave well-marked 'life hazard exclusion zones'
I feel the same way stephens. Unfortunately, there are imbeciles that, when the waters or winds create dangerous situations, must for some unknown reason, put themselves smack-dab in the middle of it, & then it's our taxpayer dollars at work to get them out of it. I know, I know, I'd rather see those people swept away by the current, but the existing laws don't support evolution in that manner. So I suppose that putting up red & white-striped tape is cheaper than saving certain fools from themselves with emergency personnel & equipment. (Oct 14, 2009 | post #10)

Letter: Criticism of political leaders very telling
Let's take high blood pressure as just one of many examples Max. Now, I have witnessed, first hand, acupuncture take down dangerously high blood pressure levels to normal within the span of about an hour. I have seen particular herbal formulas (again from the far east, NOT from some modern marketing campaign for vitamins) take chronic high blood pressure down to within normal range within 3-6 months. Now, as Americans, we tend to want everything & want it now, so an hour of acupuncture (which is a very long session indeed) or 3-6 months of taking an herbal prescription might seem a bit too long to wait. However, when presented with the options of taking a pharmaceutical medication for the condition (high blood pressure medications, as a category, have a very high side-effect profile) for the rest of your life & knowing that the medication is doing nothing for the underlying cause of the symptom, what is a person to do? Letter: Criticism of political leaders very telling
What I became "awestruck " by 25 years ago during my travels & studies in the far east, was how Traditional Chinese Medicine had herbal formulas designed to keep you alive when everyone else was dropping dead around you with epidemic plague or flu. They had this figured out a long time ago and had centuries upon centuries to fine tune and improve on it, although some of the formulas from the "Shang han lun" (Discussion of Cold-induced Disorders), which was published about 2000 years ago, are so brilliantly put together, there isn't a need to improve on them. These physicians were pure genius. (Oct 13, 2009 | post #108)
