A business man, a real estate company he acquired from his grandfather, a registered representative who has now been barred by FINRA from the securities business and Maryland Division of Securities from the advisory business and an unnamed broker teamed-up to sell millions of dollars of bonds to the public. The real estate firm which issued the bonds eventually defaulted after the investor funds had been spent, leaving holders with little. Comment?

A Howard County man was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday for an armed robbery last spring outside a Glen Burnie restaurant. Daniel Keontay Owens, 20, of Columbia, was one of two people arrested following the robbery of a Popeyes restaurant manager in the 1800 block of Crain Highway. Comment?

Federal prosecutors have charged the former owner of Glen Burnie's Empire Towers, a 10-story building on Ritchie Highway, with securities fraud for allegedly raising more than $7 million from investors for personal use under the guise that he was selling bonds. Wilfred T. Azar III, 53, raised the money from at least 50 investors, but none of the bonds were registered with the state or the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, according to the indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Baltimore. Comment?
