BENNINGTON >> A tree that came down on a transistor line in a remote area is the cause of a power outage that affected 2,747 households in Bennington and Pownal Tuesday. Dorothy Schnure, corporate spokesperson for Green Mountain Power, said the outage was reported at 8:30 p.m. For the 1,153 customers in the southern end of Bennington, the outage lasted 24 minutes as the company was able to use new "smart grid" technology to reroute power there.
