Years ago, when my friends and I would gather at the local bar to talk about the supreme fears and ultimate horrors of our lives, I once announced, quietly and without undue pride or shame, “I let a 75-year-old man give me a vasectomy.” Naturally this caused a great uproar. When it subsided and someone said the appropriate thing, “You mean you got cut?” I told them about the “Vasectomy King” of Humboldt County, Dr. Stanwood Schmidt. Comment?

The newly green-lighted Jack's Seafood restaurant is planned to be inside the Fisherman's Terminal building at the C Street end of the Eureka Boardwalk. The new restaurant planned for the Fisherman's Terminal is a go, marking the first time that the Eureka City Council has signed off on a business' plan to fill the building's long-vacant restaurant space.
