    Local players fitting in with Ashland University foo...

    In his role as an assistant football coach at Ashland University, Doug Geiser is in charge of recruiting efforts in 14 counties throughout Ohio. And, while he certainly knows the state, having been with AU head coach Lee Owens during Owens' entire 11-year tenure at Ashland and before that at Akron, Geiser has an insider's advantage when it comes to combing over potential recruits from Wayne County -- as a 1986 graduate of Triway, he's a native himself.

    H.S. boys soccer: Wooster wins first postseason game...

    It had been 3,280 days since the Wooster boys soccer team had won an Ohio High School Athletic Association tournament game, so the Generals wanted to make sure to take care of business as quickly as possible. Early in the first half, the Generals got a goal from Allen Ludington on a behind-the-back pass from Zac Zemrock-van Der Meer.

    McFrederick re-sets record, Ashland High School boys...

    Led by Leif McFrederick's school-record time of 15:44 and a runner-up finish to Wooster's Kevin White , the Ashland boys grabbed first place with 32 points, edging Lexington to win their third straight Ohio Cardinal Conference championship. Wooster placed a distant third in the boys race, while Lexington toppled the field in the girls meet for its sixth consecutive OCC crown, finishing well ahead of second-place Ashland .

    Having already clinched at least a tie for the Ohio Cardinal Conference girls soccer title going into Thursday's tournament championship match with Clear Fork, Wooster coach Les Wudarzewski wasn't sure his team would have the necessary fire needed to defeat visiting Clear Fork, the state's No. 5-ranked Div.

    Orrville whips Wooster to end 14-0 run through OCC

    Wooster concluded its conference slate by running into a buzzsaw in rival Orrville as the Red Riders routed the Generals 25-10, 25-14, 25-6. Orrville never trailed all night, jumping out to commanding leads of 10-2, 9-4 and 10-0 in Games 1, 2 and 3, respectively to put an exclamation point on its undefeated conference ledger.

    The surefire way to end a one-game rut for the Triway volleyball team is a trip back home to The Pit. The Titans were comfortable from the start as they swept Indian Valley 25-12, 25-13, 25-18 Tuesday.

    West Holmes runs past Orrville, into OCC lead

    The OHSAA's 30-point running-clock rule mercy was in effect for most of the second half of West Holmes' 53-13 rout of Orrville on a rainy Friday night at Red Rider Stadium. The way the Knights' offense dominated, they were running up and down the field -- and taking big chunks of time off the clock -- all night to claim sole possession of first place in the Ohio Cardinal Conference.
