    Algona fends off Lynx, finishes second in NCC

    The North Central Conference basketball season ended with a whimper from the Webster City boys' basketball team here last night. With just four players doing all of its scoring, Algona pulled away for a 58-49 victory over the Lynx to finish all alone in second in the league standings behind champion Clear Lake.

    Lynx, Toreadors meet for right to keep playing

    A tall task - literally - is what the Webster City girls' basketball team will face this evening when it puts its season on the line. The Lynx will open up Class 4A Region 6 play with a quarterfinal-round confrontation with Boone on the Toreadors' home floor at 7 p.m. The winner will push on to Saturday's semifinals in Huxley where third-ranked Ballard awaits.

    Dry spell in fourth spoils WCHS girls' hopes of upset

    No. 15-ranked Clear Lake hit shots late to pull away from Webster City in a North Central Conference girls' basketball clash Tuesday night. Trailing by only six points after three quarters, the Lynx made just one shot over the initial five minutes of the fourth and the Lions went on a 12-2 run en route to a 52-35 victory.

    NCC-leading Lions end Lynx 6-game streak of wins

    Clear Lake took over ownership of the North Central Conference lead and ended Webster City's six-game winning streak in the process Tuesday night inside the WCHS gymnasium. The Lions built a 10-point lead with six minutes to go and then withstood a barrage of 3-pointers from Mason Myers to escape with a 56-54 victory.
