    Exhausted WCHS boys finish fourth in third meet of week

    Competing for the third time in five days, the Webster City boys' track and field squad compiled 87 points and placed fourth in Class A at Friday's Indian Relays. "The athletes gave a good effort, but it was clear that we were suffering the effects of a third meet of the week," WCHS head coach Tony Bussan said.

    Relays power WCHS boys to third at Umstead

    Sitting in fourth late in the meet, the Lynx won the final two events - the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays - to overtake Manson-Northwest Webster and finish with 89 points to the Cougars 84. "The coaching staff is very pleased with the progress the squad continues to show," WCHS head coach Tony Bussan said. "It's very rewarding to see our athletes volunteering to step into new events and make an impact on behalf of their teammates."

    Flaws trio piles up points, medals at Algona meet

    Webster City girls' track and field head coach Clint Howard already has three Flaws sisters in uniform. He only wishes there were four, or five, or six, or ... The three Flaws siblings - junior twins Allie and Ashley, and little sis Haley, just a freshman - combined to score 541?2 points in their individual events and relays at Tuesday's Hannover Relays, as they helped propel the Lynx to a runner-up point total of 138, just 12 behind meet host and champion Algona .

    No. 15 Lynx thump 'Cats, stay perfect

    Finding chinks in the armor of the Webster City boys' soccer team is nearly impossible five matches into the season. Monday's 7-0 thumping of Humboldt was the latest example of the 15th-ranked Lynx dominance at both ends of the pitch, as head coach Craig Signorin and his club improved to 5-0.

    Those particular events continued to be strong for the Lynx at Monday's Southeast Valley Invitational, which resulted in a Class A fifth-place team finish with 72 points. Gilbert ran away and hid from the other seven squads in the larger division.

    Host Jaguars 2nd in relays

    Winning titles for Southeast Valley were Spencer Warehime , Skylar Warehime and Nolan Johnson , while Noah Tucker , Cade King and Shane Promes were all second. Cal Zahn , Tanner Hoveland and the shuttle hurdle were all champions for Webster City.

    Field events key for WCHS girls at Lady Bulldog Classic

    Cassidy Nerland continued to excel in the throwing events here on Friday, as she led the Webster City girls' track team to an eighth-place finish in the bloated 16-team field at the Lady Bulldog Classic. WCHS added the meet to its schedule late last week after earlier meets in Gowrie and Waukee were cancelled because of the weather.

    Zahn golden again, WCHS fifth at Charlie Bunn Relays

    Two gold-medal performances and 13 top-six finishes highlighted the evening for the Webster City boys' track team at the Charlie Bunn Relays on Friday. The Lynx registered 49 points to place fifth in the field of eight.

    Mohawks surge in second half, beat Lynx

    Competitive over the initial 54 minutes, the Webster City girls' soccer team came unraveled midway through the second half and was never able to rebound in its season opener Friday evening at Lynx Field. Mason City scored four unanswered goals over the final 36 minutes, the final three coming in a span of just 11 minutes, to escape with a 5-2 victory.
