'Big Three' in 4A GSHL remain unshakable

At the start of the football season, we kept receiving the same question: Who will be the surprise football team this season? We got similar questions on our prep football live chat on Friday. Is there any team you see that can break up the top three of Camas, Union, Skyview in the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League? We had hoped this would be the most competitive season for the 4A GSHL in years.

Making a racket: Week 2 in area high school tennis

In the goal to see most, if not all of the Greater St. Helens League tennis teams at some point this season, I made flybys to the Evergreen and Union tennis courts this week. I learned Evergreen is playing JV-only this season, which is why readers may not see their scores reported among the varsity results even though they remain on the schedule.

Paul Valencia: Coaches need room to grow

Kaitlin Johnson got a win in her first match as a varsity head coach last week, guiding the Columbia River Chieftains to a volleyball victory. Of course, it helps that she took over an established program, one that always has high expectations, always expects to compete for district crowns and trophies at state.
