    Another top state honor for Conway's Jordan Danberry

    Victor Rimmer, who coached Fayetteville to the 7A girls basketball title with a victory over Conway in the title game, knew the consequences of leaving Jordan Danberry unattended. There were only four girls who walked to the stage Thursday night to receive their certificates as the top five players in 7A during the inaugural Arkansas Basketball Coaches Association awards banquet at the Benton Special Events Center.

    UA faces tough test from A&M

    Arkansas Coach Dave Van Horn received a call last fall from his former assistant Rob Childress, Texas A&M's baseball coach, who was eager to discuss the new lower-seamed college baseball that was going to be put in use this season. "He said they were losing 100 balls a day because they were hitting them out of the park and there was a lot of construction going on behind the field, and he said they can't get them back or they're in the mud," Van Horn said.

    Stone rebounds with strong start

    The senior right-hander, who had a disastrous ninth inning in a one-run loss to Auburn on Saturday, excelled in his first career start Tuesday night, allowing one hit in five innings as Arkansas beat Mississippi Valley State 8-1 in front of an announced crowd of 2,012 at Baum Stadium. It was quite the contrast from Saturday.

    Defense tackling mistakes

    Arkansas defensive coordinator Robb Smith said his unit has shown constant improvement through the course of spring and responded well after allowing solid gains on four of the first five plays in Saturday's scrimmage. "I thought we got off to a little bit of a slow start defensively," Smith said.

    Good guy Bazzel about to catch some heat

    The Broyles Award, given each year to the outstanding assistant coach in college football, sits in the foreground while David Bazzel gives the opening remarks at the first Touchdown Club luncheon of 2013. Being chosen as the subject for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Toast and Roast banquet may be one of the biggest honors in central Arkansas, and David Bazzel was a great choice.
