    The FCIAC boys soccer tournament kicks off this week with traditional powers trying to keep control of the league while teams that have been knocking on the door for years, try to stake their claim to the throne. Considering half the teams, Wilton, Ludlowe, Darien and Westhill have never even played in a championship game while the other half, Staples , Danbury , Greenwich and Norwalk , have dominated the finals, we will either see a new champion or the one of the old guard back atop the league.

    The Fairfield Ludlowe volleyball team is hosting crosstown rival Fairfield Warde on Wednesday in a game that will help fight breast cancer. "Fairfield United for the Cause" begins at 7 p.m. Donations at the game will be made to the Norma Pfriem Breast Cancer in Fairfield.

    A few slow starts this season bothered Darien's two-way standout George Reed, but the Blue Wave quickly calmed any concerns against Trinity Catholic. The Blue Wave manhandled Trinity on both sides of the ball and rolled over the Crusaders 42-0 at Alumni Field on Saturday.

    Stamford volleyball bounces back, beats New Canaan

    Anne Eilertsen posted 23 kills, 14 digs and 11 service points to lead the Stamford girls volleyball team past New Canaan Wednesday in a 3-1 victory on the road. The Black Knights bounced back from a tough loss to Ridgefield the day prior, while the Rams furthered their streak of alternating wins and losses to five consecutive games.

    Trailing by nine in the third quarter when starting quarterback Jalen Brown left the game with a hand injury, it looked as though Stamford's dream season was quickly turning into a nightmare. But with the FCIAC's top quarterback on the sideline, Stamford changed course, switching to a run-heavy offense led by big sophomore Tyrell Diaz, who broke free for a 67-yard scoring run on the Black Knights next possession, later finishing the game off with a 74-yard touchdown as Stamford defeated Ridgefield 47-32 at Tiger Hollow.
