    Lady Eagles trip Sharks, 4-2

    Last winter was no exception as NCT swept SHS for the first time ever, 7-2 at Shark Tank Stadium and 4-3 at Booster Stadium. In a match pushed back 24 hours after Monday afternoon's deluge, visiting NCT trailed 10 minutes into the second half Tuesday, 2-1, before NCT sophomore forward Jayna Tyler converted a feed from junior midfielder Stephanie Hanley for the equalizer.

    Sharks hope county grip wona t slip

    Consider that the Sharks have captured 37 of their past 38 contests against county foes Central, Hernando, Springstead and Weeki Wachee. Add in the fact that they've collected three straight district championships and four in five years, have advanced to at least the Sweet 16 five consecutive seasons, gone on to the Elite Eight four of those years, including last season, and made one Final Four appearance.

    Ex-Eagle Beeker wants to go out a winner

    On Saturday afternoon in New Haven, Conn., in the 11th week of regular-season action, a pair of Division II football rivals clashed at the 6,000-seat Jess Dow Field. The visiting Pace Setters, who came in 0-10, carried the burden of a 39-game losing skein dating back to the second week of the 2011 season against the 1-9 Southern Connecticut University Owls.

    Gomez steps in at Springstead

    In dire need of a girls soccer head coach following last week's resignation of Scott Wern, Springstead filled the void without leaving the school system. Last Wednesday, Challenger K-8 music and chorus teacher Richard Gomez took over the Lady Eagles, guiding them in Friday's critical 4-3 victory over Class 3A, District 7 rival Fivay.

    Football: Hernando 19, Springstead 17

    In his first season as coach at Hernando, Bill Vonada hadn't experienced much success, but his players had shown growth. His team responded on Thursday night at Tom Fisher Memorial Stadium as Vonada faced the team he coached for 15 years, and his former defensive coordinator, Springstead coach Mike Garofano.

    Springstead leads regional contingent

    As expected the county's strongest swim program, Springstead, will bring by far the largest group to today's Class 2A, Region II Meet. The event takes place at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando and starts at 11 a.m. with timed finals.

    Vonada, Eagles set for reunion

    As he wraps up his 16th season as a head coach, there are few – if any – teams Bill Vonada hasn't coached against on the North Suncoast. But there is one he most definitely hasn't, and he'll scratch that one off the proverbial list on Thursday night at Tom Fisher Memorial Stadium.
