    Spring football: Anclote 63, Springstead 32

    Spring game-breakers: Anclote showed its potential Thursday night against the strength of the Springstead program. Rising junior running back Braxton Johnson, who led the Sharks with 733 yards and three touchdowns on the ground last season, carried the ball 20 times for 178 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yard run in the fourth quarter in which he shook off multiple Springstead tacklers in the open field.

    Youth and inexperience on the offensive side of the ball forced Springstead to rely heavily on standout fullback Daniel Wright last year. And while the senior produced, the one-dimensional attack eventually cost the back the last two weeks of season with a knee injury.

    HomeTeam Huddle: Cozy not in Hernando coach's vocab

    Bill Vonada may just be starting his second season at the helm of the Hernando High football team, but he's by no means a newcomer to coaching. Before coming to Hernando, Vonada spent 15 years as the head coach at nearby Springstead, retiring from that post in 2012.
