    Top-ranked Auburn Mountainview's season came to end with a 7-4 loss to Shorewood in a state 3A baseball quarterfinal playoff Saturday at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. The Lions scored three runs in the first inning, with Josh Swanson driving in Mason Cerillo and Jeff Morgan - who each singled - and Justin Marsden bringing home Swanson.

    Closeness key to Lynnwood baseball team's success

    First-year varsity coach Fraser Dizard had an easy job when the Lynnwood High School baseball team began tryouts in March. With only one player gone from a team that advanced to the district tournament last season, Dizard - the junior-varsity coach at Lynnwood the previous three seasons - added just two players to the varsity.

    The WIAA Executive Board made the decision to move the 2015 3A State Baseball Championship to Husky Ballpark at the University of Washington and the 4A State Baseball Championship to Joe Martin Stadium in Bellingham due to unusable field conditions at Gesa Stadium in Pasco. The 3A KingCo tournament champion Lake Washington High School baseball team will play in a Sea-King District playoff game against Shorewood at 1 p.m. on May 23 in its quest to return to the state tournament.

    The Thunderbirds, usually steady on defense, committed six errors against Meadowdale in a Class 3A District 1 playoff game at Meridian Park, including four in the first two innings as the visiting Mavericks seized an early 1-0 lead. But additional scoring would be difficult to come by for the Mavericks against Shorewood ace Ian Oxnevad, and meanwhile the T-birds were showing off their offensive might.

    Brown batted 4-for-4 in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning victory over Jackson in the first round of the 4A District 1 Tournament. Brown's walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Lake Stevens the win and ended the Timberwolves' season.
