    Around the Horn: Deer Valley wins another tournament

    On March 28, the Deer Valley boys volleyball team won all six of its matches without dropping a set at the Dougherty Valley Invitational. The Wolverines defeated the host team Dougherty Valley 25-19, 25-15 in the championship match, after taking out Northgate 25-17, 25-16 in the semifinal round.

    Now the Wolves must keep their eye on the ball -- make that Chino Hills' Ball brothers -- in the state championship game at 8 p.m. Friday at Cal's Haas Pavilion. Heralded Lonzo Ball, a 6-foot-6 junior guard headed to UCLA, had 26 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and eight steals in Chino Hills' win over Centennial-Corona in the Southern California regional final.

The former Wood High and Solano Community College standout hit .588 with two doubles, one home run, seven RBIs, three runs scored, two stolen bases and two walks in helping the Seawolves take three of four from the Warriors.

    In his first year as head coach of the San Ramon Valley High boys basketball team, he's preparing his Wolves for the Division I state championship game. The Wolves will face Southern California champion Chino Hills at 8 p.m. on March 27 at Cal's Haas Pavilion, marking San Ramon Valley's first state final appearance since 1992.
