    Tri-Valley Around the Horn: Wolves, Grizzlies shine ...

    The balanced San Ramon Valley High girls basketball team took second place in the Lady Hornet Invitational on Dec. 13, and the California girls team placed third. The Wolves dropped a heartbreaker against host Alameda in the championship game 46-44 as six San Ramon Valley players had at least five points, led by guard Tia Kim and forward Megan Cavallo with eight apiece.

    Clayton Valley beats Oakdale, headed to state bowl game

    Miles Harrison rushed for 238 yards and three touchdowns to propel the Clayton Valley Charter High football team into the state championships for the first time in program history. Harrison's big game helped the host Eagles beat Oakdale 28-7 in Saturday's Northern California Division II title game, earning them a spot in the Dec. 20 state title game in Carson.

    Point guard Jesse Grabow had four 3-pointers and a game-high 20 points, leading the young Dougherty Valley boys basketball team past Antioch 55-37 in the Straw Hat Classic on Dec. 6. Sophomore guard Austin Fadal added 12 points for the Wildcats, who have seven juniors and four sophomores on the roster. The Monte Vista girls soccer team, the defending North Coast Section Division I champion, worked back-to-back shutouts over Berkeley 4-0 on Dec. 2 and 2-0 over St. Ignatius on Dec. 6 to open the season.

    James Logan shows resolve in 5-1 win over California

    The California High boys soccer team had to wait to start the Winter Soccer Classic after their opening Gold Bracket match with Newark was rained out on Tuesday. James Logan, playing in its second game, not only gave the host team a rude welcome to the tournament, but the Colts put themselves atop the bracket after a 5-1 win on Thursday.
