Top 32 teams in each class make the playoffs, top 16 seeds earn a home playoff game.

    The wife of Jay, and mother of triplets Jaclyn, Jenna, and John lost the battle to Pancreatic cancer in 2005, and during that time, they've found strength in each other as their lives continue on. "At first, being that young, I didn't really understand it," said Jaclyn, aged seven at the time.

    Top-ranked Ponchatoula rolls over Fontainebleau 55-3...

    Ponchatoula was eager to state its case too against Fontainebleau Tuesday night, and did so with a 55-31 victory at home in a District 6-5A contest. Going into the contest, the Bulldogs were one game behind the Greenies in district competition and had hopes of an upset, but the second-ranked team in Class 5A made a strong case for deserving the number one ranking by scoring 15 straight points to start the game.

    Covington's Nick Cyprian named North Shore Boys Play...

    In a resurgence of sorts for the Covington boys basketball team, senior guard Nick Cyprian scored 41 points, collected nine rebounds and had five steals, as the Lions won both District 6-5A games last week against Ponchatoula and Fontainebleau. As a result, he is named the North Shore Boys Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 11-17.

    The long-standing rivalry of these two crosstown foes continues tonight, as the Wolves will head to the Hubie Gallagher Gym to take on the resurgent Lions in a District 6-5A game. St. Paul's has won four games in a row; Covington has been victorious in three straight.

    The Times-Picayune presents multiple Players of the Week candidates for your consideration to vote for, and we invite your suggestions in the comments section below for any athlete we might have missed. Voting will last through Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. A total of 10 players will be selected from New Orleans' Large Schools, Small Schools, North Shore, River Parishes and Baton Rouge area schools.
