The Meigs girls basketball team put a valiant fight for eight minutes, but a 40-10 run over the middle quarter ultimately allowed top-seeded Nelsonville-York to advance to districts Sunday following a 60-29 decision in a Division III sectional final at McAfee Gymnasium at Athens High School. The ninth-seeded Lady Marauders trailed 14-8 after one quarter of play, but the Lady Buckeyes followed with a 16-1 surge out of the second period gate - giving the hosts a sizable 30-9 cushion. The River Valley swimming program had four girls advance to districts Saturday following the 2015 Division II Southeast District Sectional Swimming Tournament held at the Ohio University Aquatics Center in Athens County. The Lady Raiders scored a single district berth in the 200-yard freestyle relay event, as the quartet of Kaela Shaw, Alyssa Lollathin, Kenzie Baker and Cheyenne Huffman finished fourth overall in sectionals with a mark of 2:05.93.
