    After Region 1 foes Layton and Viewmont knocked off higher seeds to advance to the 5A semifinals earlier on Wednesday, there was no way Region 1 champion Davis wasn't going to follow suit. After a bit of a slow start, Davis ripped off 14 straight points late in the second quarter, a decisive stretch that spurred it to a 74-63 victory over Pleasant Grove in the 5A quarterfinals at the Dee Events Center.

    Jesse Wade has attracted a lot of attention from Davis High's opponents during the 2014-15 boys basketball season, and rightfully so. With Pleasant Grove focusing on the Gonzaga signee in Wednesday's Class 5A quarterfinal, Caleb Leonhardt stepped to the 3-point line and carried his team to the finish line.

    High school basketball: Monday's roundup

    Davis defense limited Granger to just 19 percent shooting, and only 11 percent from 3-point range, in a resounding victory in the opening round of the state tournament. Offensively, scored 22 points and added seven rebounds as Hunter overcame a 12-point deficit with 6:37 remaining in the fourth quarter to avoid the 5A first-round upset.

    Pleasant Grove coach Randy McAllister figured his team might get off to a slow start in the opening round of the 5A state tournament on Monday with just one returning contributor from last year's runner-up squad. "Riley the only one that knows what this is all about, this game and the level and the excitement of this stage," said McAllister.

    Led by star senior Jesse Wade, Davis dismantled Granger in the first round of the 5A boys basketball tournament Monday, winning 58-30. Wade, who will attend Gonzaga after serving an LDS mission, was dominant from the start, posting 16 points in the first half alone.
