Area prep volleyball teams took to the court Thursday night, looking for one last tuneup, if you will, before they get into district play, where league titles and state playoff berths are decided! Arnold, the top seed in 5A district-1, playing their final regular season match on the road at North Bay Haven, where the Lady Bucs were looking to knock off their county rival! In the first set, Lady Bucs in black at home, Cassidi Gant's spike in the middle midway through the match helped NBH close the early deficit to the Lady Marlins. Arnold soon was able to pull away near the end of the first set, as a nice set to Casey Justice who gets the spike and take the first. Comment?

The Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School volleyball team split three matches during the final week of the regular season as the Lady Tiger Sharks prepare to host the District 2-1A tournament. The Lady Tiger Sharks host West Gadsden in the opening match at 5 p.m. ET followed by Bozeman facing Franklin County at 7 p.m. The following day, Tuesday, Oct. 21, the winner of Port St. Joe vs. West Gadsden will play South Walton at 5 p.m. The second semifinal will match the winner of Franklin County vs. Bozeman will take on Liberty County, the top seed. Arnold Marlins was one play, one single stop away from either a huge victory they could build playoff hopes on, or a crushing defeat that could put a damper on all their hard work this season. With the Marlins up 31-24 and only seven seconds left in the game, Bay's Xavier Longerbeam hit Justin Davis for a 15 yard touchdown and was set to go for the two-point conversion and the win. The Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School volleyball team split a pair of matches against Bay County opponents last week to leave the overall record at 7-8, 4-4 in District 4-1A. The Lady Tigers Sharks were "simply overpowered by the larger and quicker team of Rutherford," said Coach Wayne Taylor after the host Lady Rams won in three games 17-25, 17-25 and 22-25 last Monday. There's a strong belief at Tampa Prep that a 16th state championship volleyball banner will be hung in its gymnasium later this year. . At 16-2, Tampa Prep has sealed the top seed in its district, and earlier this season it won the Academy of the Holy Names Invite. Comment?
