    Girls defeat SoHi, Kenai; boys topple Seward

    With a season record of 5-1, the Lady Mariners, who brought home two more wins last Thursday and Friday against Kenai and SoHi, are undoubtedly on a roll. The Mariners have squashed doubts about their small stature and new coaching staff as they continue to rebound from adversity with composure and grit.

    Friday: SoHi boys topple Palmer at Tipoff tourney

    The Soldotna offense exploded at the right time Friday night as the Stars toppled Northern Lights Conference opponent Palmer 53-46 at the Powerade/Al Howard Tipoff tournament at Soldotna High. The win sets SoHi up with a winner-take-all matchup with Thunder Mountain Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Both teams are 2-0 in tournament play this weekend.

    Alaska's governing body for high school activities has decided to call an audible in an attempt to level the state's high school football playing field. The Alaska School Activities Association board of directors voted Tuesday to change the student enrollment limit for football's small schools division from 350 to 450 students and from 800 to 900 for medium schools.
