    The fight for a state berth in the sport of track and field is an emotional one which can be seen in the gritty faces of student athletes that expend every ounce of energy in hopes of qualifying for one last shot at glory. This weekend's Region III meet at Ed Hollier Field in Kenai is bound to see more than one exhausted face with hopes of making the trip to Anchorage.

    Colony baseball tops Kenai Central

    The Colony baseball team jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Kenai Central after the top of the first inning and held on for a 9-5 Southcentral Conference victory Friday at the Kenai Little League fields. Colony moved to 5-1 in the league and 5-4 overall with the win, while the Kards dropped to 1-5 in the league and overall.

    Wasilla baseball comes back to top SoHi

    With his team holding a slim 2-1 lead at the top of the seventh and final inning Friday evening at the Soldotna Little League fields, Soldotna baseball coach Robb Quelland had flashbacks of Tuesday's game against Homer running through his mind. However, unlike the win against Homer, the Stars were unable to pull out the win, falling to the Wasilla Warriors in a 3-2 loss.

    The Homer softball team defeated visiting Kodiak 15-0 and 12-4 in Northern Lights Conference action in Homer on Friday to wrap up a 14th state berth in the last 15 years. The 15-0 victory took just 2 1-2 innings.
