    Former Muskegon High coach Tony Annese celebrates as the head coach at Ferris State after the Bulldogs defeated Grand Valley 42-17 on Saturday night in Big Rapids. Oakridge's Jamie Potts caught a 34-yard touchdown pass for Grand Valley, but it came in a 42-17 loss to rival Ferris State.

    Spring Lake's Batts OK after scare

    There was a scary moment during Friday night's football contest between Spring Lake and Muskegon Catholic Central when Lakers' senior Nathan Batts was injured. Early in the second half, Batts was returning a kickoff when he attempted to hurdle a Crusaders' defender.

    Mason County Central's Zac Benham medaled with a time of 16:22, and the Ludington boys cross country team won the Oakridge Invitational with 60 points on Saturday. In the early hours of the morning, teams readied themselves for a course that was described by many as a bit sloppy.

    That's what Spring Lake was hoping to find in Friday's MLive.com Game of the Week football game against Muskegon Catholic Central . MCC turned in an all-around dominating performance in a 49-0 victory that had the press box buzzing at halftime when the score was 35-0 against a decent Spring Lake team.

    MUSKEGON, MI With the first half winding to a close in Friday's matchup with Lowell, Muskegon Reeths-Puffer was exactly where they wanted to be contending in a one-possession game against one of the traditionally toughest teams in Michigan. Only seconds remaining before halftime, Red Arrows quarterback Ryan Stevens fired a pass to receiver Gabe Stead, who cut up the field and ran it 66 yards for a touchdown.

    The second-ranked Big Reds welcomed the eighth-ranked East Grand Rapids Pioneers to Hackley Stadium for the first-ever meeting between the schools, and the Big Reds introduced themselves right away. Running behind a strong offensive line, Holt rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns and Scott added 150 yards and four touchdowns as the Crusaders rolled past Spring Lake 49-0 in a Lakes 8 showdown Friday night before about 4,000 fans at Grabinski Field.

    Ken Stevens Picks Pics: Rainy, hard-hitting football...

    I especially liked the way the spray of the water is flying off Reeths-Puffer quarterback Jalen Cooley as he stiff arms Chase Pego of Grand Haven in the fourth quarter. I didn't how fortunate I was to have captured the spray until looking at the photo later when editing the photos.
