    Two titles for Wilson County?

    It looked like Wilson Central might miss its chance when the tying run was doubled off base on a sixth-inning line drive. But with two outs, the Lady Wildcats simply hit the "restart" button and poured six runs across the plate in a 7-2 rout of Ooltewah in the Class AAA winner's bracket final at McKnight on Thursday night.

    Central Magnet baseball eliminated at Spring Fling; ...

    Central Magnet's baseball team saw its season come to a most disappointing end on Wednesday at the TSAAA Spring Fling, but it hardly overshadowed what was a "terrific" season. The Tigers were eliminated in the Class AA bracket, 12-0, by Lexington in five innings at Blackman High School.

    East Hamilton, playing in its first TSSAA Spring Fling Class AAA state baseball tournament game at Siegel High School on Tuesday, went up against a championship machine and battled courageously before falling to Farragut, 2-0, at Siegel High School.

    The Blackman Flames and Siegel Cavaliers tied for the regular season boys soccer championship, and the La Vergne Hawks won a 3-2 match over the Rock Springs Knights for the tournament championship recently. The 2015 regular season All-Conference team members were JC Conn, Luke Buckley and Jason Hysong from Blackman, Josh Stout from Central, Sam Orput from Christiana, Jonathan Lopez from La Vergne, Garrett Dodd from Oakland, Logan Decker from Rockvale, Dalton Butler from Rock Springs, Ryan Schofield, Jackson White and Eric Vaughan from Siegel, Law Wah from Smyrna, Cesar Salinas from Stewarts Creek and Buchanan's Luis Chavaz.

    The final two local high school sports teams for the 2014-15 school year went down swinging, coming up just one win shy of a TSSAA - Sstate tournament berth.     Soccer: McLean's resignation on hold

    The resignation of Hardin Valley Academy soccer coach Mike McLean will have to wait a few more days until it takes effect. The ultra-successful McLean, who tendered his resignation on Tuesday, guided the Hawks to a 4-1 elimination-game victory over visiting Morristown West on Saturday in the Class AAA sectional.

    Feisty Fillies' advance to region final, sectional

    After three years of knocking on the door, Walker Valley kicked it open with a big shutout win Monday to earn their first spot in the Region 3-AAA championship game since WALKER - SVALLEY - Sthird baseman Lara Bean tries to block the bag on a tag-up play as Rhea County's Delaney Smith tries to advance during the Region 3-AAA - Sopener in Evensville Monday. The "Feisty Fillies" claimed a 7-0 victory to advance to the region title game Wednesday in Ooltewah as well as the TSSAA - SSectional round Friday.

    Barrett back on the bench - " at Lebanon

    Cory Barrett, considered one of the rising stars in Tennessee high school coaching until a "tanking" scandal essentially cost him his job at Riverdale earlier this spring, was named girls' basketball coach at Lebanon High School on Monday. The 40-year-old Barrett met with the team at midday Monday as he was announced as the successor to Courtney McFarland, who stepped down last month while preparing to give birth to her second child.

    Siegel's Ciera Purvis delivered the biggest hit for the program since 2009 to advance the Lady Stars past Walker Valley in sectional play Friday night... NewsRadio WGNS' Bryan Barrett and Jon Dinkins with the call as Siegel goes up 2-to-1. McKenzie McMahan added a single to drive in an insurance run as the Lady Stars defeated the Lady Mustangs 3-to-1 and advanced to the TSSAA Spring Fling for the first time in six years.

    Siegel Survives at Coffee Co. for 3-1 Win in 12 Inni...

    It took Siegel 12 innings, but they defeated Coffee County on the road in Manchester to win the Region 4-Triple-A title 3-to-1. After being scoreless through 9-innings, in a game heard on NewsRadio WGNS, Siegel struck first in the top of the 10th with the international tiebreaker in effect.
