    Bradley rallies come up short

    For the first time in nearly five years, both Bradley Central basketball teams came out on the short side of the Jim Smiddy Arena scoreboard on the same night Monday. Both Black-and-Gold squads outscored the Bearden visitors in three of the four periods, but each also fell into holes from which, even though they clawed and scratched their way back into the contest, they couldn't fully climb out of.

    Oakland avenged their only two losses in two-years with a quarterfinal win over rival Blackman 20-to-9 at the Inferno. Blackman scored first Friday night, but Oakland came back with a touchdown of their own in the second quarter.

    Maryville shows plenty of defense, 45-0

    Defense has not yet won a championship for the 2014 edition of the Maryville High School football team, but it certainly propelled the Rebels into the state semifinals. The Rebels forced four turnovers and limited a potent Science Hill offense to just 150 yards in a 45-0 blowout over the Hilltoppers on Friday night at Shields Stadium in the Class 6A quarterfinals.

    Harper, Jackets buzz outscore MTCS

    Running a check with the Yellow Jackets' roster shows the jersey belongs to Kenyan Harper, who was caught on video and witnessed by a few thousand frigid fans scoring six touchdowns as Trousdale County outscored the host Cougars 55-42 in a second-round Class 2A playoff game Friday night. Harper ran for 277 yards and six touchdowns on 28 carries - scoring on runs of 30, 15, 7, 14, 7 and 21 yards.

    Blackman, Oakland to host football doubleheader in 2...

    It will be a battle between four of Tennessee's and Alabama's best four football teams in 2015 when Blackman and Oakland will host a doubleheader on Saturday, Aug. 22. Blackman will play Clay-Chalkville, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 6-A in Alabama, while Oakland will face Hoover, the top Class 7-A team in the state.
