For New Philadelphia, some outstanding third-quarter defense jump-started the Quakers' offense and energized the crowd as New Phila raced to a 57-48 boys' basketball win over Marietta in an East Central Ohio League game Friday night. The 1967-68 Marietta boys district champion basketball team was honored before the Tigers' varsity game against Claymont Friday night at Sutton Gymnasium. The current Tigers followed by doing their best impression of that squad by clobbering Claymont 73-40 to improve to 6-7 and claim their sixth win in their last nine tries. Comment?

Victoria Buzzard poured in 33 points including 11 in the final quarter and also came up with a huge defensive play at the crucial point of the game as the Warren Lady Warriors nipped the Marietta Lady Tigers 67-63 Wednesday evening at the Warrior Coliseum. Almost a full year after scoring a game-winning buzzer beater over the Tigers in Marietta last January, Buzzard played a key role in another Warren victory as she connected on 11-of-20 field goal attempts including four from behind the arc. Justin Cork tossed in 19 points to lead the Meadowbrook Colts to a 58-48 East Central Ohio League victory Tuesday evening over the visiting Marietta Tigers. Cork scored nine points in the opening half to send the Colts out to an eight-point advantage and added 10 more in the second half as Meadowbrook led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter.
