Parkersburg scored two of its first three six-pointers off Marietta turnovers here Friday night at Don Drumm Stadium and the Big Reds put on a dominating performance during a 45-14 blowout of the host Tigers. Dan Fox intercepted Tiger signal-caller John Henry on the first series of the game and the Big Reds never trailed after Corey Burdette capped a nine-play, 76-yard, drive with a 3-yard touchdown run and Josh Roney booted the first of his six successful extra points with 6:53 left in the opening stanza. When the Big Reds and Tigers meet at 7 p.m. tonight at Don Drumm Stadium, it will mark their 110th game between the schools. Coaching the Big Reds is former PHS quarterback Don Reeves, who led Parkersburg to the 1978 Class AAA state championship. Comment?

The Marietta football team scored on three plays of over 40 yards Friday night in a 21-14 victory over non-conference guest Gallia Academy at Don Drumm Stadium. The Tigers broke open a 13-0 lead on a 62-yard touchdown run at the 2:53 mark of the first quarter and a 44-yard touchdown at the 8:39 mark of the second quarter, both by tailback Bernard Johnson. For 79 minutes and 52.5 seconds, neither Warren nor Athens could find the back of the net in a pivotal Southeastern Ohio Athletic League soccer match. But with 7.5 seconds remaining on the clock, Warren freshman Zed Strahler out-ran Athens defenders to an Aaron Mazurkiewicz pass down the field and knocked it past the goalkeeper to give the Warriors a 1-0 victory.
