WG boys hoops sweep F-M, Auburn

In recent years, West Genesee's boys basketball team had not enjoyed many pleasurable moments while on the same court as Fayetteville-Manlius, often on the wrong end of lopsided defeats punctuated by a barrage of Hornets 3-pointers. This only made the Wildcats' 73-57 victory at F-M last Tuesday night that much sweeter, for in the face of the vaunted "Hornets Nest" student section, WG took charge during the second quarter and did not let go the rest of the way.

    Liverpool boys hoops survives Corcoran

Somehow, the Warriors navigated through these waters and, with well-timed big plays down the stretch, edged past the Cougars 83-82 when Corcoran settled for a lay-up in the final seconds when a 3-point basket may have forced overtime. From a 10-10 team in 2013-14 that lost in the Section III Class AA quarterfinal to Fayetteville-Manlius, head coach Matt Jacob faced plenty of roster turnover, from graduating seniors like Caleb Taylor to junior Jaydakis Scott not playing this season as he concentrates on football.
