"He controls the game, offensively and defensively," said Wittig, who has played with Collier in AAU basketball and against him in high school.

    Leading 4-0 at the end of three, the West Genesee baseball team entered a slump. The Wildcats failed to score the next three innings and found themselves trailing Fayetteville-Manlius 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh.

    Tired of practices in gymnasiums, and hoping to expedite the process of getting its 2015 season underway, the West Genesee baseball team went out and shoveled its own field in the early days of April, and was glad to see warm weather help melt the rest of the white stuff. Everything was clear in time for last Tuesday's season opener against Central Square, and to celebrate, the Wildcats flattened the Redhawks with two big rallies that led to a 17-0 victory.

    Madisyn Kittell scored four goals and had an assist and Mackenzie Baker had a goal and four assists to lead undefeated West Genesee to a 15-5 victory over Fayetteville-Manlius in a girls high school lacrosse game on Thursday. The Wildcats, the defending Class A state champions, led 9-2 at halftime.

    The Fayetteville-Manlius boys lacrosse team mounted a six-goal comeback that fell just one goal short, losing a non-league contest to visiting Liverpool, 14-13. The Warriors Kendall Keahey netted his third goals of the game with 7:30 left to go that gave Liverpool a 14-7 lead.
