    50 former players gather to celebrate legendary care...

    It was supposed to be the final home game in the storied career of Bob "Southy" Southworth, a baseball treasure who is retiring after 50 years of coaching at Corcoran High School and for the combined Syracuse City School District team. Some 100 people including upwards of 50 former players converged on Dave Kinney Field behind Van Duyn Elementary School on Saturday to celebrate Southworth's career and his achievements, which include more than 700 victories and places in the Greater Syracuse and NYSPHSAA halls of fame.

    Boleslav brothers win state tennis qualifier

    Once again, West Genesee's boys tennis brother tandem of Brent and Garrett Boleslav are making their way to Queens in pursuit of a state championship. The Boleslavs secured their bid through winning the Section III state qualifying tournament, held Thursday and Friday at Utica's Mott Courts and Syracuse University's Skytop Courts, proving so tough that, in four matches, they did not drop a single set.

    Special Olympians take to the track at Cicero-North ...

    More than 785 students from 12 area school districts took to the track at the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Athletic Complex this morning for the Special Olympics. Students from Baldwinsville, Chittenango, Cortland, East Syracuse Minoa, Fayetteville-Manlius, Jamesville-Dewitt, Liverpool, Lyncourt, Marcellus, Cicero-North Syracuse, Solvay and West Genesee competed in a variety of events.

    The nationally second-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team built a 9-2 lead at the half and held off a second-half rally by Catholic University to earn a 13-12 victory Sunday afternoon in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Quarterfinals at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons won their 67th consecutive home game dating back to 2010, improving to 20-1 on the season, and advanced to their fifth consecutive NCAA Division III final four.

    Boys lacrosse Hornets stun West Genesee

    Dylan Taylor-Wolford's goal in overtime capped an inspired performance by the Hornets in Tuesday night's game at West Genesee, where the Hornets, mired with a 5-8 record, rose up and stunned the 11-1 Wildcats by a score of 8-7. All season long, F-M had played every opponent close, but rarely prevailed.
