    Madera High baseball coach Andy Underwood missed the Coyotes' first-round Central Section playoff game Wednesday to be with his expectant wife, Lauren, at Clovis Community Medical Center. Those options were promoted after Nick Zamora blasted a three-run homer off Central star Colton Eastman in the sixth inning and Gamboa pitched a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts in a 3-0 Division I win.

    Danielle Lung pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts for the 900th win in program history, and Cameryn Reichle knocked in her 53th and 54th runs of the season as top-seeded Clovis beat No. 9 Liberty-Bakersfield in the quarterfinals of the Central Section Division I playoffs.

    After falling to Clovis High in the regular season and losing out on the league championship, Buchanan wasn't going to let the Cougars play spoiler once more in their run for back-to-back Central Section badminton championships. The Bears rallied from a 9-6 deficit the second round of doubles to win 11-10 and successfully defend its Central Section title.

    Edison senior Casey Wagnon, drove in two runs, scored twice and recorded the save, striking out three in 1 2/3 innings -- the last with the potential tying run on third base -- as the Tigers defeated Bullard 8-7 for a County/Metro Athletic Conference tie with Madera. Leave it to Edison and Bullard to raise the boiler a few degrees and scald the entrance to the Central Section baseball playoffs.
