    Fred France won the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 1.92 seconds and Steve Boyd the 200 freestyle to help the Norwich Free Academy/Ledyard cooperative team defeat Windham/RHAM/Coventry, 98-85, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference swim meet on Friday. Zach Collins won the 500 freestyle and Jack Wheeler tthe 100 breaststroke for NFA/Ledyard .

    Local basketball roundup: Sutherland leads Coast Gua...

    Torie Sutherland scored 15 points and had 18 rebounds as the Coast Guard women's basketball team beat WPI 58-57 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game on Wednesday night. Sutherland's 3-pointer with 30 seconds to go snapped a 55-55 tie and came after Coast Guard had missed five straight free throws.

    The Montville wrestling team had four individual champions on Saturday en route to winning the Casey Yates Invitational for the second straight season. The Indians won with 225 points, NFA was second with 199, Pomperaug finished third with 165.5 and host Lyman Memorial/Windham Tech was fourth with 163.

    High school basketball: New London girls rout Waterf...

    New London High School's frontcourt of India Pagan and Charee Osborne combined for 32 points and 21 rebounds Friday night in a 67-42 victory over Waterford in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division girls' basketball game. Deanna McCarvell added 14 points and six assists for New London , the 10th-ranked team in the New Haven Register Top 10 Poll.

    High school boys' basketball: Calash scores 18 as Mo...

    Cody Calash scored a team-high 18 points and the Montville High School boys' basketball team placed five players in double figures to defeat Wheeler 73-56 Tuesday. Buddy Dewaine added 17 points for the Indians while Pat Podeszwa had 13 and TT Bowens and Chance Collier had 10 apiece.

    High school girls' basketball: Ledyard's Klinikowski...

    Michelle Klinikowski scored 22 points, including the 1,000th of her career, as Ledyard High School held off Bacon Academy for a 45-42 victory Tuesday night in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division girls' basketball game. Klinikowski, who accepted a Division I volleyball scholarship at Boston College, came into the game needing 14 points and reached the milestone by making a layup with 3:38 left in the third quarter.
