    Richmond knocks off rivals

    With the final point, the players on the bench rushed the court to celebrate with their teammates a victory over their rivals. Even after the game, the members of the Richmond Senior volleyball team were still beaming after claiming a 25-20, 25-14, 25-22 win over Scotland Thursday night.

    Southern still winning, still giving

    Before the Southern Spartans played Scotland High School in Laurinburg on Sept. 11, they presented a $200 check to help Jaylend Ratliffe, who was the starting quarterback for the Fighting Scots until fracturing his skull in an accident while riding an all-terrain vehicle over the summer.

    The Week 1 game the Southern Spartans were supposed to win, they won, beating the pads off Landover, Maryland's Capitol Christian Academy 41-0. There would have been no shame for the 3-A Spartans if they'd lost to the 4-A Hillside Hornets in Week 2, but Southern got out of N.C. Central University's O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium that Friday night with a razor-close 16-13 win.
