    The 2014 high school football season has been one of the best for the Tampa Bay area in recent memory, and for that, several players and coaches have been recognized for their efforts. On Monday, Florida Dairy Farmers announced Armwood senior defensive end Byron Cowart, Indian Rocks Christian coach Mark Buchanan and East Lake coach Bob Hudson were named Player and Coach of the Year for their respective classifications, making them finalists for the Mr. Football and Coach of the Year awards, given to the top player and coach in the state.

    Halftime couldn't come soon enough for Indian Rocks Christian in its 54-16 loss to Lakeland Victory Christian. The Eagles gave up a touchdown pass with five seconds left in the second quarter of Friday's Class 2A state final and trailed just 19-9.

    It would be understandable if Pinellas County high school coaches decided to petition the Florida High School Athletic Association to have the state championship football games moved out of Orlando's Citrus Bowl. For the third time since 2011, a Pinellas team made it to the Citrus Bowl only to get blown out in the final game.
