    West St. John overtakes Curtis for top spot in girls...

    Curtis has had the top spot locked up for the past few seasons but the departed duo of Tulane's Kolby Morgan and Nichols State's Tia Charles has proven difficult to replace as expected. Meanwhile, West St. John continues to roll after returning all but one player from a team that advanced to the Class 1A quarterfinals in 2013.

    Karr takes top spot in girls Large Schools Starting ...

    The Large Schools field is stacked in 2014, evidenced by the continued movement throughout the top 10. Salmen, a mainstay atop the rankings the past several seasons was defeated twice in back-to-back outings and Landry-Walker made its presence known sneaking into the rankings with some quality play as of late. This week will unveil even more across the girls basketball landscape with several competitive tournaments taking place, headlined by the St. Charles Catholic Shootout at Hahnville, which includes Salmen, Warren Easton, Destrehan, Thibodaux and Curtis among others.

    St. Charles Catholic in LaPlace is a hub of activity

    Students at St. Charles Catholic High in LaPlace have been busy in the classroom, on the field, and on the basketball court. In the classrooms, students are participating in physics labs.

    The St. James Festival of the Bonfires Committee presented the 25th annual Miss Festival of the Bonfires Pageant and 16th annual Teen Miss Festival of the Bonfires Pageant November 29 at Lutcher High School. Erin Monica of LaPlace is the new Miss Queen.
