    Gulf Coast Class II: Class 6A third-ranked Hartselle downed Class 2A top-ranked Sumiton Christian on Wednesday to win the 41-team Gulf Shores tournament. The Tigers also beat McNary Central , Madison County , Hazel Green , Colbert Heights , Grissom , Austin , North Jackson and Huntsville .

    Twelve major contributors to prep athletics in Alabama were inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame Monday night at the 25 Inducted were tennis coach Nancy Becker, basketball coaches Steve Jefferson, Jack Doss and Bobby Wright, football coaches Steve Rivers, Doug Goodwin and John Tatum, athletic director Myra Miles, track official Houston Young, and administrators Alan Mitchell and Ron Ingram. Selected in the "Old Timer" category was longtime Geneva County football coach James D. Chesteen.

    University of South Alabama softball freshmen Haleigh Lowe and Kristian Foster combined for five RBI to lead the Jaguars to an 8-0, run-rule victory over Appalachian State on Sunday, as USA completed a Sun Belt Conference series sweep of the Mountaineers at Jaguar Field. Lowe supplied a three-run home run, the first of her career, as part of a five-run Jaguar first inning, and Foster lifted a bases-loaded double to left center in the bottom of the fifth that scored a pair, before an Appalachian State throwing error allowed a third run to score to enact the mercy rule, USA's sixth of the abbreviated variety this year.
