    Football: Gulf 50, Anclote 24

It might have been a different week on the calendar, but it was nearly an identical result for the Gulf Buccaneers in a vital 5A-7 District victory, 50-24 over Anclote. The Bucs racked up more than 500 yards for a second straight week while using big plays from their stable of seniors on offense en route to a 26-point margin this week compared to last week's 27-point, 534-yard output vs. Fivay.

Hernando shocks Fivay for district crown

Despite the day's 91-degree temperature, heavily favored FHS was expected to hoist its school-record fourth straight district title along the 5,007-yard layout. But after reinjuring her wrist on the long and sandy Hernando County course, Dalton did lead her team, but settled on fourth place individually in the 31-player field behind an 18-hole 46-51-97 total.

Eagles clip Falcons as Owens answers

Down 9-0 thanks to Eagle senior fullback Daniel Wright's eighth rushing touchdown of the season from 13 yards and senior placekicker Brian Rae's 25-yard field goal, the Falcons' Dylan Hartley returned Eric Stevens' 29-yard third-quarter punt 42 yards to the Springstead 23. It took eight snaps before Fivay senior Christian Coleman tallied from a yard out with 4:46 showing on the Booster Stadium scoreboard. On a night when Springstead's special teams were anything but special, missing two point-after boots, plus clanking a 32-yard field goal against an upright – lightning struck in the form of sophomore T.J. Owens.

North Suncoast Game of the Week: Gulf 31, Hudson 22

After a half in which they failed to move the ball when they weren't fumbling it away, the Gulf Buccaneers went into the locker room and, from the looks of it, handed their uniforms to completely different guys who came out and dominated Hudson in the second half en route to a 31-22 win at Des Little Stadium on Friday night. Gulf ran for 93 yards in the second half - after rushing for negative yards in the first - and Hudson ran for 8. The Bucs scored on four of their five possessions, and the only drive they failed to score on was the best drive of all as they were able to take a knee and let the clock run out, securing the first two-game win streak for the program since 2010.
