    Defense gave Mililani another shot at a title as the Trojans survived a 17-14 duel with Farrington on Saturday at Aloha Stadium to return to Friday's Division I final of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Championship "It's been on the back burner honestly," Mililani defensive lineman Rex Manu said. "I think we've been taking it one game at a time and ultimately it led us to this point."

    Kamehameha-Hawaii made history last week with a convincing 42-20 win against Nanakuli in the first round of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Tournament, but the Warriors' postseason ride is far from over. The Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division II champions travel to Maui to face undefeated Lahainaluna Saturday at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku.

    HHSAA volleyball: Konawaena rolls into state title game

    Konawaena's tag-team sister act was too tough to stop once Chanelle and Celena Molina got into a hitting groove and started smoking volleyballs on Friday. They shared a hitting hammer, and the Wildcats pounded Kalaheo 27-25, 25-22, 25-19 in the semifinals at the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II state championships at Kaimuki High's gym.

    Farrington uses backup plan to defeat Maui

    A productive understudy for much of the season, Farrington running back Challen Faamatau delivered when the spotlight turned his way. With Ranan Mamiya, the Governors' leading rusher, sidelined in the second half on Friday, Faamatau helped keep Farrington on track in a 22-6 victory over Maui in the first round of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Division I football championships at Aloha Stadium.
