After six jumbled weeks to start the 2014 prep football season, the playoff pictures for the medium-schools Northern Lights Conference and the small-schools Greatland Conference have sharpened considerably. Soldotna crushed Homer to the tune of a 51-6 win last Saturday to stake out a 2-0 NLC record and secure the team's ninth-straight postseason berth. Comment?

In a game where you have to count your blessings wherever you find them, Mariner Head Coach Josh Fraley and the Homer High football team have something to brag about in spite of Saturday's 51-6 loss to the Soldotna Stars. "We're only the second team to score on them all year," said Fraley of the Mariners putting themselves on the board during the fourth quarter of Saturday's game. Comment?

With a 51-6 rout of Northern Lights Conference opponent Homer on Saturday, the Soldotna Stars football team can breathe easier after clinching a spot in the medium-schools state playoffs. Saturday's victory over the Mariners put SoHi into the state playoffs for a ninth consecutive year, and with games against large-schools opponent West Valley and conference rival Kenai Central in the next two weeks, the Stars will be tuned up and ready to roll by mid-October.
