    PIAA track and field notes: Unified event a success ...

    The state's inaugural Interscholastic Unified track and field meet, held amid the weekend's regular PIAA championships at Shippensburg University, was created with disabled students in mind. Some such students from McDowell, General McLane and Brashear, the latter of which won the three-team event, were able to perform in the formal and structured setting at Seth Grove Stadium.

"Meg did an outstanding job on the mound," said Warren coach Mark Bupp, whose team will have a chance to defend its district title at noon Saturday at Penn State Behrend.

    On Saturday, Curtin won three District 10 Class AA championships, helped set a school record in the 3,200-meter relay and took home a third-place medal in the 1,600 relay as the D-10 track and field championships took place at the S.P.I.R.E. Institute in Geneva, Ohio. "The school record was in the back of our minds, and although winning was the big thing, we didn't rule it out," Curtin said.
