    Area wrestlers will aim for spots in the PIAA tournament when they compete in the Northwest Region tournaments at two locations beginning today and continuing through Saturday. Saegertown senior Tyler Vath will go for his fourth consecutive Northwest Region Class AA title this weekend at Sharon High School.

    Fast-starting Kennedy races past Erie First

    Nick Tantuo scored 14 points and Drew Magestro added 10 as Kennedy Catholic beat Erie First Christian Academy 49-29 tonight in the District 10 Class A boys basketball semifinals at Meadville High School. Kennedy Catholic advances to the final.

Outlook: Erie First Christian didn't waste any time winning a region title as the Eagles dominated in their first season as a member of a District 10 region.

    Kennedy Catholic junior April Bocian has been a standout player throughout her career with the Golden Eagles and is starting to garner major Division I interest. The 6-foot 3-inch forward is averaging 11.5 points per game and is a force inside the paint.

    He won the Section 1-AA title at 138 pounds at Union City on Saturday to complete a four-year section tournament sweep. He will go for four straight District 10 Class AA titles Saturday and Monday in Sharon.

    GAGE BAYLESS, sophomore, Reynolds: He's among a handful of returning postseason tournament winners for the Raiders, who placed third in last weekend's PIAA Class AA team tournament. As a freshman, was a 106-pound champion in the Section 2-AA and District 10 meets, and then went on to qualify for the state meet.
