The Wildcats started the season with three lopsided non-league wins--61-27 over San Mateo, 78-39 over Leland and 72-32 over Christopher--and they opened the Jim Soden Tournament at Terra Nova High School last week with two more victories--42-33 over Washington and 56-48 over Piedmont Hills--to earn a spot in the tourney title game.

    Alameda Around the Horn: Hornets win own tournament

    The Alameda High School girls basketball team edged San Ramon Valley 46-44 in overtime to win the championship game of the Lady Hornets Invitational on Dec. 13. Maddy Lewis scored a game-high 21 points, including a trio of three-pointers, and teammate Lisa Bertholdt added 12 points in the victory. In a 45-39 semifinal victory over California on the same day, Lewis scored a team-high 16 points and Bertholdt added 15. The Oakland Tech High School boys basketball team dominated Antioch 51-23 to win the Mt.
