    After a sluggish first few minutes at the start of its North Coast Section Division III quarterfinal against Encinal on Friday, the Drake High boys basketball team was presented with a great opportunity to answer the bell. With the Pirates up by two points midway through the first quarter, the game was delayed for several minutes when a ceramics class across campus set off the school's fire alarm.

    Despite losing the final three games of the Sonoma County League season, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball boys had already secured a winning SCL record at 6-3 and ended up finishing with a 6-6 mark, which just qualified them for the North Coast Section Division-3 playoffs. Knowing if they did make the NCS Division-3 field, they would be seeded near the bottom and would be hitting the postseason road against one of the top seeds.
