    For years Bill Gray fought the Central Coast Section football committee to make a change in the way the Open Division was structured for the playoffs. Gray, now retired from coaching and living in South Dakota, always believed that the post-season teams should play for a championship in a division determined by enrollment.

    Half Moon Bay won its sixth straight game to start the year in Friday night's tourney championship at Burlingame High School with a convincing 61-49 win over Los Altos . The Cougars rode the hot hand of junior forward Tommy Nuno, who scored a game-high 20 points en route to earning tournament MVP honors for the second straight year.

    Half Moon Bay was a Central Coast Section Open Division playoff team last season, a solid half-court team with good size that played exceptional defense. Half Moon Bay won their second tournament championship of the young season with a 61-49 victory Friday over Los Altos in the final of the Burlingame Lions Tournament.

    For Los Altos to capture its first Burlingame Lions Club Basketball Tournament title, it had to go through a seasoned Half Moon Bay contingent in pursuit of its second straight tourney crown. The Eagles struggled offensively early and could never recover, losing to the Cougars 61-49 at Burlingame High School on Friday evening.
