    PREPS: New territory for Roosevelt softball

    Roosevelt High put together two big innings sparked by a couple of long balls, got a very good pitching performance from freshman Grace Ferres and made school history Monday at Delta Park. The Roughriders dominated Forest Grove 7-2 in the first round of the Oregon School Activities Association Class 6A softball playoffs.

    Jenesis Spires' grand slam leads Roosevelt over Fore...

    All available seats in the bleachers quickly filled up, but that didn't seem to bother the festive standing-room only crowd that packed into Delta Park on Monday. Those fans including proud Roosevelt High School alumni from the 1960s came to witness history and the Roughriders' softball team delivered in emphatic fashion.

    PREPS: Two trophies, 100 points for Grant track and ...

    While the state championship eluded Grant High's track and field teams this past weekend at Hayward Field, trophies, accolades and points did not. Grant's girls, led by middle-distance runner Ella Donaghu, placed third behind sprint-crazy champion Barlow and yet another emerging Jesuit squad in the Friday-Saturday Oregon School Activities Association competition.

    Darkhorse Grants Pass rises to end title drought in ...

    It's been so long since Grants Pass won a state track championship, fourth-year coach Jenner Yriarte wasn't even sure if it had been done before. When informed that the Cavemen won their only title in 1947 when they tied Washington and won by a coin toss -- Yriarte beamed and shook his head in wonder.

    Barlow rides its dominant sprints to first girls tea...

    It's one of those ridiculous-type goals kids often come up with, one that's often followed with laughter and really doesn't seem possible, but hey, there's always a chance. That's how it started with Barlow 's girls thinking it could finish 1-2-3 in the Class 6A 100 meter finals.

    Sherwood high jumper Ben Milligan misses on record, ...

    Sherwood high jumper Ben Milligan was hoping to add to his record-shattering senior season Saturday in the OSAA Class 6A track meet at Hayward Field. Milligan came up short in his pursuit of the state-meet record of 7 feet, 0 1/2 inches, a disappointment considering he cleared 7-1 1/2 this season, third-best all-time in the state.

    Jesuit's Bess Waldram carving her path in 6A girls t...

    BEAVERTON Considering the swath Jesuit's Bess Waldram has been carving through the singles competition in the OSAA 6A state tennis championships this week, it's tempting to think about where she was 365 days ago and draw the wrong conclusion. Last year, while teammate Erin Larner was winning her fourth straight championship, Waldram was on the sidelines with boot on her left foot protecting a stress fracture.

    South Umpqua leads 4A boys track and field race as V...

    Valley Catholic sent just two boys to the OSAA 4A state track and field meet at Hayward Field, but Valiants runner Wilder Boyden thinks their two-man crew might be able to grab a spot on the team podium Saturday. Boyden won the only track final on Friday, taking the title at 3,000 meters in 8 minutes, 52.53 seconds.
